Soulvation Presents 'Northern Soul' Film Celebration.

We’re delighted to announce that Soulvation will be hosting a celebration of the forthcoming film “Northern Soul” with a very special Soul shindig right here at the Hare and Hounds on Friday 10th October.

By arrangement with the film’s producer Elaine Constantine, the night will feature footage of the making of the film, merchandise, and giveaways with a free Norhern Soul single given away to the first 25 through the doors. The film is acclaimed photographer Elaine’s directorial debut, and features Steve Coogan, Lisa Stansfield, and Ricky Tomlinson as it tells the action and pathos rammed “thrills and pills” story of young white working class kids growing up in it’s grim up North surroundings and getting their teenage kicks out of uptempo inspiring black music – Northern Soul, the first UK dance underground movement. It shows how it had the same energy and spirit of rebellion as the later Punk scene, with the Soul music worshippers attending as their cathedral all-nighters at Wigan Casino, a super club before House Music hedonism had been created. Fittingly the main DJ on October 10 will be Dave Evison, who DJ’s at many of the (gulp) 546 All-Nighters at Wigan Casino between 1973 and 1981. He will be joined by Northern Soul veterans Ian Dewhirst, who is behind the soundtrack CD of the film released by Demon and will be hammering many of the best tracks in the Film on the night, Neil Rushton, Clive Jones and Lil Scotty.
