Sea of Bees return to Hare & Hounds
We are very excited to once again be welcoming Sea of Bees back to the Hare & Hounds!
Sea Of Bees is the creation of Sacramento indie-pop vocalist/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Julie Ann ‘Jules’ Baenziger. In her early 20s, she moved into Sacramento city and was discovered by producer, and Tape Op Magazine publisher, John Baccigaluppi. With John at the helm, they recorded Jules’ five track EP ‘Bee Eee Pee’, which caught the eye of esteemed record label Heavenly, who signed Jules, and she set about recording her debut album. ‘Songs for The Ravens’ was the fruits of her labour and was critically admired across board, including in the British press, with heralding reviews coming from Mojo, Q and The Independent.
Jules latest album, ‘Orangefarben’, is a classic break-up record that disobeys the usual break-up rules, where getting reacquainted with life in the single lane is a singularly maudlin and clothes-ripping experience. The simplicity spills over to the songs, which have one-word titles and a direct appeal to the heart. Spanning memory and metaphor, each track is a part of the story.
“Folky in some places, gauzy and ambient in others and twee as hell in still others, but beautiful throughout, and a potent reminder that emotional virtue is an artist’s most precious commodity. This one’s special, folks, let’s not screw it up.” – Kevin Bronson, LA Weekly
Sea of Bees plays Hare & Hounds Birmingham on Sunday 11th November 2012, with support from Barbarossa. Tickets available here.
