Soulvation's 'Out on the Floor' with Russ Winstanley

Soulvation’s “Out On The Floor” event returns to to the Hare & Hounds on Friday January 23  for what promises to be a cracking night of Vintage Northern Soul.

Joining residents Neil Rushton, Clive Jones and Lil’ Scotty is the legendary Russ Winstanley. Way back in 1973 Russ persuaded a originally reluctant night club owner to try a Northern Soul All-Nighter at his venue. Nobody knew quite to expect, but the result was Wigan Casino, Northern Soul’s very own super club which ran from 1973 until 1981. And a very happy club owner.

Russ DJ’d at the “Heart Of Soul” for the whole of the period and is the veteran of an incredible 546 All-Nighters at the Casino. He is is now behind the hugely popuar annual Northern Soul weekender at Butlin’s in Skegness which attracts over 6,000 followers and is busy as ever DJ’ing all over the UK and the rest of the World.

The in-vogue film  “Northern Soul” is centred around Wigan Casino and Russ has become synonomous with the venue, so all is set a
night of nostalgia and Casino Classics from the man behind Northern Soul’s most iconic All-Nighter. Advanced £5 tickets are on sale now, you can find them here.

Aziz Ibrahim & Dalbir Singh Rattan to Play the H&H This Thursday

When Aziz Ibrahim and Dalbir Singh Rattan met in South Africa a few years ago, sparks started flying.

Guitar virtuoso Aziz and classically-trained tabla player Dalbir together have an energy that takes their music through and beyond rock, punk and indie, fusing Western and Asian influences to leave audiences breathless.

Both have impeccable credentials. Mancunian Aziz has performed with The Stone Roses, Asia, Ian Brown and Jah Wobble (with whom he is currently on tour as special featured guest in Invaders of the Heart) and has for years written for Brown and Paul Weller. Birmingham-born Dalbir is one of the most respected players in the classical field, having as his mentor Shri Sukhvinder Singh Namdhari; he has also worked with Richard Ashcroft and Ocean Colour Scene. Both have toured with Marillion and worked with Steve Hogarth (Marillion) and Richard Barbieri (Porcupine Tree/Japan), while Dalbir is an integral creative force on both Aziz’s albums, Lahore to Longsight and Rusholme Rock.

Their combined sound is an infectious, enthralling riot of melody and percussion that relies on finely-honed skills, electrifying energy and some unique techniques that delights every audience, including their peers.

New Show Announcement: Sleaford Mods

We’re pleased to announce that Supersonic Festival will be bringing Sleaford Mods back the Hare & Hounds on Friday 20th February 2015.

Sleaford Mods started out sometime during 2006 whilst Jason Williamson was living in Nottingham. Born out of part frustration and part accident, it quickly found its feet as an aggressive verbal onslaught on all that is contrived and connected to the day-to-day hammer of low paid employment and domestic situations arising from that trap. Check out the video for the bands single ‘Tied Up In Nottz’ below;

Advanced £10 tickets are on sale now but we expect them to sell out very soon. Make sure you don’t miss out and pick up yours now by clicking here.

The Darkroom Presents Elf - Free Film Screening

Tomorrow night The Darkroom will be lightening up from it’s usual more sinister proceedings for a special screening of the festive classic ‘Elf’.

So we couldn’t be happier that The Darkroom are offering you the chance to get snuggled down on beanbags with plenty of  free popcorn and candy canes to see you through the whole film.
