IMPORTANT VENUE UPDATE - 19TH JULY ROADMAP DELAY

The Hare & Hounds Needs Your Support!

Well here we are again, pushed to the brink of ruin, forced to re-house a month’s worth of shows on a week’s notice. The delaying of the roadmap is a devastating blow to our venue and the hospitality industry as a whole. And while we understand the decision in light of the current data, we’re calling on the government to offer immediate financial support to hospitality businesses, like our own, in the face of dramatic financial losses from limited capacity trade, inflated staff costs to maintain social distancing, empty diary slots and cancelled/re-scheduled shows.

But there are a few very simple ways that you can help:

[1] We’ve seen a worrying trend with drop-outs and no shows in the last few weeks, and while we understand plans can change please let us know if you can no longer attend (thank you to those who do!), this gives us a chance to fill empty seats and maintain valuable trade within the venue.

[2]
We are working tirelessly to reschedule all affected full cap shows, please bear with us and hold on to your purchased tickets if you can. If a new date cannot be found we’ll be offering full refunds to the relative ticket holders.

[3]
And finally, please be patient with us – customers and promoters alike – as we navigate the updated roadmap. We’ll be announcing some new shows, talks and activities over the coming weeks to take us through to the new 19th July unlock date. Committing to our new reduced capacity programming will be nothing short of a lifeline, keeping the venue afloat as we once again prepare for a calendar of unrestricted entertainment just as we all remember it. The situation is dire, but with the right support we will dance again.

Much love from the Hare & Hounds to all who have supported us, and will continue to do so during this extremely difficult time <3

H&H October Statement

*OCTOBER UPDATE*

Once again we want to thank everyone for all the kind words and offers of help over the past months. Everyone’s support and concern has reminded us what the space means to you all and how important it is that we fight for it.

Yesterday, Birmingham Live posted an article that wrongly gave the impression that we were shutting indefinitely. They quoted a statement that we put out 7 months ago when the lockdown began. A lot has happened since then and we’re still certain that the Hare and Hounds will survive this pandemic. We have since got in touch with Birmingham Live / Mail and they have removed the article.

Running the Hare and Hounds is more than just a job for us, it’s our life and there is no way we would go down without a fight, it means too much to us. So we want to reassure you all that the reason the venue isn’t open at the moment is purely because it’s the most cost effective approach for protecting the business. We do hope that in the near future we will be able to open our doors again, but we must do it in a way that makes financial sense.

One week today we will find out if our Cultural Recovery Fund Bid has been successful. If we are successful then this will alleviate some of the financial pressure on the business, if it’s unsuccessful, then we shall move onto our plan B, C, D, E etc…But you can rest assured we will do whatever we possibly can to keep this venue alive in our community for years to come.

So again, thanks for all the support and we will announce more news as and when we have it,

H&H

Limited Edition Fundraiser T Shirt

As we try and navigate our way through these tough times, we’ve had lots of people kindly ask how they can support us.

So we’ve released the first in a series of strictly limited Hare tees. The first tee is an ‘A to Z’ featuring many of the acts that have played the venue (we couldn’t fit them all on). You’ll also get a poster too.

These are designed by Dead Human Design who we’ve worked with for over a decade, and they will be printed by Do Make Say Ink.

You can pick one up from the below link…

HARE & HOUNDS IS CLOSING // PLEASE READ OUR STATEMENT

In light of the government’s latest advice to avoid non-essential gatherings, and in the interest of public safety, we have made the difficult decision to close our pub and venues. As of today, the Hare & Hounds will cease trading until further notice. We will assess and update this position on a regular basis, being as transparent as possible with the information being provided by the government and local authorities.

Coronavirus is having an unprecedented, rapidly escalating impact on our business, but also on all our peers in the night time industry: bars, pubs, music venues, clubs, art spaces, cultural/heritage sites and more, along with all the staff and suppliers that rely on these industries for their livelihoods.

That said, our focus turns now to protecting the future of our venue, to ensure everyone has something special to come back to. Please appreciate that all businesses affected, such as ours, have been forced into financial insecurity. With this in mind, we urge you to think about how you can support, not just our own business, but others too. We are making a conscious effort to reschedule all our affected shows to both avoid refunds and provide something more positive to look towards in the later months of the year.

As ever, we hugely appreciate your support and understanding in these difficult times. It is now more than ever that we notice our brilliant community, both locally in Kings Heath and Birmingham, and across the globe, are pulling together to support those most vulnerable. Please continue to isolate from people if you are able to, help those in need safely if you can, and stay safe yourselves.

We’ll see you on the other side.
H&H Team x
