New Show: Malcolm Middleton

We’re pleased to announce that This Is Tmrw are welcoming Malcolm Middleton to the Hare & Hounds this December. The Scottish guitarist and songwriter is best known for his work with Aidan Moffat in Scottish rock legends ARAB STRAP, and has since established himself as a solo artist in the indie genre with six albums, releasing music under his own name as well as the alias HUMAN DON’T BE ANGRY. His most recent album, Summer of ’13, included singles such as ‘Steps’, and his forthcoming album ‘BANANAS’ will be released on 28th September on Triassic Tusk Records.

On ‘BANANAS’ Malcolm has teamed up with the acclaimed not-jazz trio JEANSY, JONES & SMILLIE (David Jeans DRUMS, Stevie Jones DOUBLE BASS and Graeme Smillie PIANO) to produce an album that is both scathing and nice. With new songs like “BUZZ LIGHTYEAR HELMET”, “LOVE IS A MOMENTARY LAPSE IN SELF-LOATHING” and “PISS OFF LIFE, JUST KILL ME NOW” (that last one is a joke), Malcolm continues to report back from the depths of the everyday whilst attempting to monetise HELL. Adding a dose of saccharine to the mix, the Samaratinesque choir of Kenny Anderson (KING CREOSOTE), Jenny Reeve (BDY_PRTS) and Dan Wilson (WITHERED HAND) courageously manage to pull Malcolm back from the brink of many a teetering jont just as he’s about to disappear up his own proverbial.

New Show: Art School Girlfriend

We’re pleased to announce that This Is Tmrw will be welcoming Art School Girlfriend to Hare & Hounds on Sunday the 7th of October!

Earning sonic comparisons to the ethereal, reverb-laden style of acts such as Daughter and the xx, Art School Girlfriend is an atmospheric electronic project from musician and singer/songwriter Polly Mackey. Hailing from Wrexham, North Wales, Mackey developed a taste for the work of artists like PJ Harvey and the Jesus & Mary Chain, as well as various new wave and shoegaze acts. After dabbling in a number of bands, she relocated to London where she lived for five years before settling in Margate, Kent. There she began writing her own songs — inspired by her own experiences as well as the written works of Virginia Woolf and Milan Kundera — and began listening to more electronic music from artists like John Maus and Caribou. Opting for the moniker “Art School Girlfriend,” her songs caught the attention of Grammy Award-winning producer Paul Epworth (Florence + the Machine, Adele) and she signed with his label, Wolf Tone Records, in 2017. Her debut EP, Measures, followed later that year and Mackey promoted the release with live performances around the U.K. in 2018.

New Show: Clean Cut Kid

We’re delighted to announce that Live Nation will be welcoming indie pop four-piece Clean Cut Kid to Hare & Hounds on Monday 26th November!

Liverpudlian indie pop four-piece Clean Cut Kid formed in 2014. Fronted by husband-and-wife team Mike and Evelyn Hall, they started out as a duo before meeting bassist Saul Goodman and briefly rehearsing as a trio. In November 2014, Ross Higginson joined on drums and the band’s lineup was complete. Even as a youngster Mike was fixated with music, spinning the Beatles Blue and Red albums, along with Michael Jackson’s Dangerous, on his Walkman, and then eventually taking up the guitar in his teens after his father gave him a battered acoustic with only three strings. His penchant for classic pop permeates the band’s own music that is characterized by unabashedly romantic lyrics and infectious melodies. A series of singles began their career, starting with “Runaway” and “Vitamin C” in 2015. The influence of Fleetwood Mac, Peter Gabriel, Joni Mitchell, and Paul Simon served them well, as they were signed to Polydor after playing only their second show. Following their single releases, Clean Cut Kid’s debut album Felt appeared in 2017.

New Show: Natalie Prass

We’re pleased to announce that This Is Tmrw will be welcoming the American singer-songwriter Natalie Prass to Hare & Hounds on Saturday 28th April!

Not only one of the sharpest up-and-coming songwriters in Nashville, Natalie Prass possesses a rare artistic method she infuses into all her endeavors. She handcrafts album artwork and flyers and organizes local vinyl listening parties/drawing sessions, and there appears to be little end to the homespun creativity of this bright young talent. She’s also no slouch in the pipes department either — the girl can sing. Although her debut EP is titled Small & Sweet, Prass’ brand of indie folk is not to be underestimated. While her delicate alto evokes clear benchmarks of influence — see early Rilo Kiley, Feist, Karen Carpenter, etc. — Prass never seems weighed down by the artists she’s absorbed. Instead, she has developed a refreshing guitar-grounded musical vocabulary and a knack for infectious and entrancing tunes. Still, it’s a spirit of invitation and friendship that continues to be Prass’ most pronounced attribute.

New Show: U.S. Girls

We’re delighted to announce that This Is Tmrw be welcoming U.S. Girls to Hare & Hounds on Thursday 17th May 2018.

U.S. Girls is Illinois-born, Toronto-based artist Meghan Remy. A captivating musical force who evolved from the raw, corrosive 4-track fidelity found on her early records to the more unabashed art-pop of U.S. Girls on KRAAK (2011) and Gem (2012) – albums which helped to “widen and universalize her music without losing a drop of what previously made it so special and personal” (Pitchfork) – her debut album for 4AD, Half Free, came out in 2015.

In a Poem Unlimited is the second U.S. Girls release for 4AD, and also includes the singles, ‘Velvet 4 Sale’ and ‘Mad As Hell’. It is scheduled for release on 16th February. Remy’s sixth studio album was tracked in collaboration with the Cosmic Range, and features arrangements by Percival and Maxmilian Turnbull. A dizzying buffet of live grooves, In a Poem Unlimited represents an inversion of the dusty, sample-based minimal textures of Half Free, Remy’s euphoric 4AD debut. Poem features dark meditations on charged atmospheres that directly precede and follow acts of violence. Many of the songs are character studies of women grappling with power; how to gain and exert it spiritually, as well as desperate strategies to mitigate its infliction. Remy also rallies against the public lies told by political and religious leaders, and more crucially, questions the lies we tell ourselves in order to survive. While U.S. Girls, denoting the plural, is no longer a misnomer, In A Poem Unlimited may be Remy’s most individually distilled protest to date.

To coincide with the release of In a Poem Unlimited, U.S. Girls will tour Europe this Spring. Remy will be joined onstage by a 6-piece band. Tickets for this show go on sale this Friday (12th January), and can be picked up here.

New Show: Nap Eyes

We’re delighted to announce that This Is Tmrw will be welcoming Nap Eyes to Hare & Hounds Kings Heath as part of their European and North American tour!

Nap Eyes are pleased to announce the release of their new album, I’m Bad Now, on March 9th via Paradise of Bachelors (USA), You’ve Changed (Canada), and Jagjaguwar (rest of world). The acclaimed Canadians’ ambitious, allusive third album achieves a new sonic clarity, depth, and range to match the effortless melodies and extraordinary writing. It’s the band’s most transparent and personal set of songs to date, in which singer Nigel Chapman interrogates social, psychological, and spiritual milieus for clues about the elusive nature of knowledge.

Nap Eyes will tour North America and Europe this spring in support of I’m Bad Now, starting with a record release show in their adopted hometown of Montreal.

Tickets go on sale Friday 12th January, and can be purchased here.

New Show: Jayda G & Pender Street Steppers

We’re delighted to announce that Leftfoot & Fight Night are teaming up to bring two of Canada’s hottest exports, Jayda G & Pender Street Steppers, to the Hare & Hounds on 26th January 2018.

Jayda G, ‘the disco house queen black girl magic’ (as introduced in her Dekmantel Boiler Room set) is one of those DJs who everyone needs to see; in the flesh! Energetic, passionate… hell, the girl’s even been interviewed by Vogue about her hair. Co-founding Freakout Cult with DJ Fett Burger and releasing numerous REALLY good tracks on the label, she’s a woman of many talents. Jayda’s only just got started too – we can’t begin to imagine where she’ll be this time next year!

Pender Street Steppers aka Mood Hut aka Jack J (yep, THE Jack J) and Liam Butler are a real musical powerhouse. Their record label, Mood Hut, is responsible for putting Vancouver on the map as a home for innovative and completely unique sounding dance music. The Steppers’ own productions are unlike anything you’ve ever heard – textured, sensual, and something else that probably can’t be put into words, but can be felt. They’re excellent DJs, too – as a craft, there’s not many better, and as music selectors, they know exactly what works when. Expect to hear a set you’ve never heard before, and will probably never hear again.

Tickets are on sale now and can be picked up here.
