As we enter the final month of preparations for this year’s Mostly Jazz, Funk & Soul Festival, friday night’s compere will be joining us for a Bank Holiday DJ session at the Hare & Hounds.   Music lover, record collector, DJ, and broadcaster, Gilles Peterson is perhaps most famous for his much loved genre-exploding radio shows.  His recent move from to BBC6Music has been well-received by his fanbase as he continues to join the dots between a wide variety of leftfield, soulful sounds.

This year’s festival promises to be the strongest yet with headline appearances from George Clinton’s Parliament/Funkadelic, Roots Manuva & Family Stone. Rising Birmingham band Swim Deep just announced to support Zulu Winter on 7th May.

We have a very special gig from one of the most important and influential bands to emerge from the post punk scene in the late 70s.

The Monochrome Set was formed in 1978 by vocalist Ganesh ‘Bid’ Seshadri and guitarist Lester Square when art rock band The B-Sides split ( whose name-changing bassist Stuart Goddard formed Adam & The Ants). With a whimsical pop sensibility, clever lyrics and an idiosyncratic, retrogressive guitar-led sound, they bridged the gap between freak beat and post punk and effectively paved the way for groups such as The Smiths. Influencing a whole family tree of bands from Orange Juice and Fire Engines to The Divine Comedy, Graham Coxon and Franz Ferdinand, The Monochrome Set are back, with original members Bid and Lester Square sounding as fresh and exciting as ever.

We’re delighted to be launching our food service on Wednesday, January 24th 2024!

Please read below for some key information before your first visit..

• Food will be served at the follow times: Wednesday – Friday from 5PM – 9.30PM, Saturdays and Sundays from 1PM – 9.30PM.
• There will be meat, vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options available, all clearly labelled on the menu. If you have any allergies, please inform a member of staff.
• We do not take reservations, walk ins only.
• There will be no table service: upon arrival simply find a seat and order at the bar when you’re ready! Once your order has been placed, you’ll be given a buzzer which will vibrate when your food is ready for collection. The collection hatch is located by the bottom of the staircase, under the illuminated Food at the Hare lightbox.
• One buzzer will be given per order.
• There will be no tabs.
• Takeaway option available (must be ordered in-house, no phone orders).
