Tickets now on sale for Carina Round

We are super excited to welcome Carina Round back to the Hare & Hounds!

Carina Round has carved a singular path in music with her inimitable voice and stirringly varied compositions. Her uncompromising vision and thrilling versatility has garnered an immensely passionate fan base including a myriad of highly regarded musicians. Her latest album, ‘Tigermending,’ was produced by Grammy nominated writer Dan Burns, and includes collaborations with the legendary Dave Stewart, Brian Eno, and Smashing Pumpkins’ front man Billy Corgan.

Making her home in the creative circus of Loss Angles surrounded by a supportive community of fantastic musicians, artists, videographers and a string of other collaborators, has led Carina to work with some of her favourite artists old and new and opened up many new roads of expression. She has had the time and freedom to experiment and explore and created yet another beautiful record in ‘Tigermending’, without the pressure or constraints of a label. Every song in its own way is speaking of really different things. There’s guitar ragers, acoustic beauties, electronic epics, dashes of prog and all the good stuff in between, yet there’s still a strong backbone running throughout the whole record.

“Tigermending has everything that a superb record requires: heart, soul, mysticism, unpredictability, and complexity, which is never sacrificed for accessibility”9/10, PopMatters

Carina Round plays Venue 1 at Hare & Hounds on Wednesday 3rd October 2012, presented by Birmingham Promoters. Tickets available here.

Fossil Collective to play Hare & Hounds

Fossil Collective, a two-piece from Leeds, consists of multi instrumentalists David Fendick and Jonny Hooker. Their first recordings saw them taking inspiration from classic albums by Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac and Simon and Garfunkel and suggested comparisons with more contemporary artists such as Fleet Foxes, Midlake and Bon Iver. But in truth their exquisitely structured songs and glorious, rich harmonies owe as much, if not more, to a solid English song tradition, and their material holds that distinct English quality that many North American artists hanker after.

“These guys are up-and-coming talents that are going to be up there among the indie-folk elite.” – Obscure Sound

Fossil Collective play Venue 1 at Hare & Hounds Birmingham on Thursday 18th October 2012, presented by Birmingham Promoters. Tickets available here.

Bear's Den confirmed to support Smoke Fairies

Very excited to announce London’s awesome Bear’s Den will be supporting Smoke Fairies!

Bear’s Den is the new project of former Cherbourg front man Andrew Davie. Think of a traditional UK folk sound mixed with the more sombre sounds of Bonnie Prince Billy and Midlake.

Bear’s Den support Smoke Fairies in Venue 1 at Hare & Hounds on Wednesday 26th September, present by Birmingham Promoters. Tickets available here.

New Guest Ales

Once a month we will be bringing in a guest ale for those of you who appreciate trying new brew. We are now Cask Marque accredited which means we will be working hard to bring you the latest ales, as well as celebrated and traditional brands of ale.

This month we welcome Shape’s Cornish Doom Bar Bitter. Here are some nice things to read about Doom Bar:

Doom Bar Bitter is named after an infamous sandbank at the mouth of the Camel Estuary in North Cornwall.

Where the river Camel meets the Atlantic Ocean on Cornwall’s rugged north coast, a sand bank, centuries old, known as the Doom Bar protects and calms this beautiful estuary. Sailors respect the Doom Bar knowing it to be unforgiving if met with haste or arrogance.

Doom Bar the beer embodies many characteristics which make it worthy to carry the name of this natural wonder. It’s distinctive aroma and balanced flavour set it apart from other beers taking unsuspecting first time drinkers by surprise with its moreish appeal. Doom Bar has achieved international cult status, is one of the fastest growing beer brands in the UK and the best selling cask beer in the South West of England.

Taste Notes Stuart Howe Head Brewer
“The aroma of Doom Bar combines an accomplished balance of spicy resinous hop, inviting sweet malt and delicate roasted notes. The mouth feel is a perfectly balanced and complex blend of succulent dried fruit, lightly roasted malty notes and a subtle yet assertive bitterness. The bitterness remains into the finish with dry fruity notes which implore the drinker to go back for more.”

Holy Other coming to H&H

The post dubstep, dark house electronica leanings of the mysterious Holy Other is coming to the Hare and Hounds for his first ever UK tour….

HOLY OTHER – http://soundcloud.com/holyother/

Holy Other’s Debut EP ‘ With U’ was released worldwide in June 2011 on all formats (12”, CD & digital) to universal critical acclaim and currently holds a score of 82 on Metacritic. It was listed in Best of 2011 lists by the likes of Spin, Stereogum, URB, Gorilla Vs Bear, Dummy, The Guardian and XLR8R who actually made it their number 1 record of the year as well as making Holy Other their number 2 new artist of the year. The Album has received great radio support from Stuart Maconie, Rob Da Bank and Gilles Peterson who included ‘Touch’ in his best of the year radio show.

‘In all honesty, it’s hard to say a whole lot more about Holy Other and his music without sounding like gushing fanboys. Nevertheless, With U is an incredible record. Even with its dark and dour drones—which are incredibly intoxicating on their own merits—the EP is stuffed with tangible emotion, some of which is surprisingly bright and all of which is incredibly potent.’XLR8R

Expect a stunning, unique show with visuals, moody lighting and music spilling out of one of the cities best soundsystems.

VESSEL – http://soundcloud.com/vessel

Vessel is the pseudonym of 22 year old Bristolian Sebastian Gainsborough. Having only been producing for a few years Seb rose to prominence in 2011 through acclaimed releases for Throwing Snow’s fledgling label left_blank, along with a sold out cassette release for Rekordah’s boutique imprint Astro-Dynamics. In early 2012 Seb signed with the all conquering Tri Angle records (home to Balam Acab, oOoOO, Holy Other, Clams Casino, The Haxan Cloak) to release his debut album.
Taking influence as much from the bass heavy heritage of the city around him as from sounds emerging further afield, Seb creates exciting, unclassifiable music across shifting BPM’s. From the EBM pulse of Nylon Sunset, the stuttering house swing of Patina or the warped boogie of Wax Dance, through to the recent industrial-tinged Tri Angle debut Scarletta, there is a unique grasp of rhythm and an undeniable musicality at work in his productions.
As part of the Young Echo collective alongside fellow left_blank artist El Kid, and Punch Drunk signees Kahn & Zhou, Seb is at the forefront of a groundbreaking generation of new producers for whom 2012 should be a stellar year.

FORT ROMEAU – http://soundcloud.com/fortromeau

Perhaps introducing South London’s Fort Romeau, aka Mike Norris, as ‘La Roux’s keyboardist / programmer’ invokes the wrong ideas of poppy electro and angular hair, but his solo productions couldn’t be further from all that. Inspired by the likes of Air, Autechre and classic Chicago House, Norris fuses warm analogue sounds and haunting vocal samples for his debut release, ‘Kingdoms’, on the seductively offbeat 100% Silk label

Tickets are priced at £8 (INCLUDING BOOKING FEE) and if you’d like to pick one up please go here

Just confirmed - Cave Painting

Early last year, Cave Painting tip toed into people’s ears with an online free download called ‘Leaf’ and a much talked about debut gig at the tiny Social in London earlier this year. The ripple effect spread when they streamed a demo of ‘Midnight Love’ along with a stunning 1 minute promo clip of the same name. Bloggers blogged, labels talked, and by the time Cave Painting played their second show at Proud Galleries they were signed to Hideout Records on a major long term deal.

2012 sees the much-anticipated release of the bands’ debut single and album, recently recorded with Barny Barnicott (Arctic Monkey/Kasabian).

“Colliding intimate moments with heart in mouth dynamics, shimmering guitars and butter wouldn’t melt harmonies – the four songs on offer here hint at a band with more ideas than you can shake a tie dyed stick at.” – The Line of Best Fit

Cave Painting play Venue 2 at Hare & Hounds on Tuesday 2nd October 2012, presented by Birmingham Promoters. Tickets available here.
