Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly to play solo acoustic show at Hare & Hounds

When it comes to Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. there are a few certainties on which you can rely. You’ll get a timeless hook lodged within every song and lyrics that tell a story without a single throwaway line, but most importantly, you’ll find the man behind GCWCF, Sam Duckworth, is one of the most infectiously enthusiastic characters in today’s music scene.

The Southend-born singer is now back with his fifth LP, ‘Maps’. With the effervescent Jason Perry of A at the production helm, record is largely streamlined to guitars, bass and drums and a whole heap of energy. It’s full of big ideas couched in rambunctious sing-a-longs and shouty punk refrains. Where before Sam’s love of post-hardcore was evident in his emotive pitch, this record’s musical touchstones are his Britpop heroes Blur, The Streets, Super Furry Animals and Gomez.

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly plays a solo acoustic show at Hare & Hounds Birmingham on Thurs 29th November 2012. Tickets available here.

Tickets now on sale for Marcus Foster

We are very pleased to be welcoming the incredible Marcus Foster back to Hare & Hounds!

The gods have clearly blessed this Londoner with an array of talents; he is a multi-instrumentalist, an artist (he paints and sculpts) and has a beautifully evocative singing voice. After his song ‘Let Me Sign’ gained widespread fame due to Robert Pattinson recording a cover of it for the Twilight soundtrack, it’s now Marcus Foster’s turn to take the limelight with his glorious fusion of the sounds of Jeff Buckley, Tom Waits and The Band.

Since the release of his critically acclaimed debut album ‘Nameless Path’ at the end of last year, Marcus Foster has been penning new songs and subjecting himself to a grueling – yet not altogether unpleasant – worldwide touring schedule. Following US September support slots with Mercury Music Prize nominated Michael Kiwanuka and Ben Howard, Marcus will tour the UK again in November.

“Remarkably talented and excitingly different” – The Independent

“Foster’s supersonic soul stylings bring a dose of gravel-voiced sophistication and grit…A haunting wedge of nightmare-soul” – NME

Marcus Foster plays Hare & Hounds Birmingham on Monday 12th November 2012, presented by Birmingham Promoters. Tickets available here.

LTJ Bukem returns this Saturday

This Saturday we welcome back one of the original liquid drum and bass dons….LTJ Bukem!

Those of you who were here last time he played will remember it as one of the most memorable nights of the year when 250 totally up for it Brummies (and beyond!) partied their socks off right through till close.

For those of you who missed it, here’s your second chance (they don’t come often) and for those of you looking to learn a little more about one of Drum N Bass’s godfathers…Read on…

Ground breaking DJ? Inspirational musician? Record label entrepreneur? Club visionary, perhaps? When the man behind those wire rimmed glasses and that disarming smile writes …his job description just what does he put? The man who took the drum and bass concept from a small venue off London’s Charing Cross Road to the nation’s superclubs and then onto the international stage? The geezer whose records launched breakbeat into a brand new galaxy of sound? Or maybe he just writes ‘Renaissance man for a digital age’.

In truth LTJ Bukem is all of the above. Although he wouldn’t like to admit it, LTJ Bukem is the living embodiment of the post-acid house entrepreneurial creative spirit. He is a mild mannered energy flash whose panoramic musical vision has found success in every area he has explored. From running sound systems to cutting up breaks at raves, from relocating the heart of breakbeat culture to redefining the spirit of drum and bass, the man known to his friends as Danny Williamson has sat at the forefront of breakbeat evolution, lighting the way with little more than a zest for life and a love of music. In other words, LTJ Bukem is a man on a mission!

Last time tickets sold out in advance so if you’re thinking of coming down, now’s the time to pick up a ticket here

Sea of Bees return to Hare & Hounds

We are very excited to once again be welcoming Sea of Bees back to the Hare & Hounds!

Sea Of Bees is the creation of Sacramento indie-pop vocalist/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Julie Ann ‘Jules’ Baenziger. In her early 20s, she moved into Sacramento city and was discovered by producer, and Tape Op Magazine publisher, John Baccigaluppi. With John at the helm, they recorded Jules’ five track EP ‘Bee Eee Pee’, which caught the eye of esteemed record label Heavenly, who signed Jules, and she set about recording her debut album. ‘Songs for The Ravens’ was the fruits of her labour and was critically admired across board, including in the British press, with heralding reviews coming from Mojo, Q and The Independent.

Jules latest album, ‘Orangefarben’, is a classic break-up record that disobeys the usual break-up rules, where getting reacquainted with life in the single lane is a singularly maudlin and clothes-ripping experience. The simplicity spills over to the songs, which have one-word titles and a direct appeal to the heart. Spanning memory and metaphor, each track is a part of the story.

“Folky in some places, gauzy and ambient in others and twee as hell in still others, but beautiful throughout, and a potent reminder that emotional virtue is an artist’s most precious commodity. This one’s special, folks, let’s not screw it up.” – Kevin Bronson, LA Weekly

Sea of Bees plays Hare & Hounds Birmingham on Sunday 11th November 2012, with support from Barbarossa. Tickets available here.

AlunaGeorge to play Hare & Hounds

In June, the London duo of producer George Reid and singer Aluna Francis released their debut EP, ‘You Know You Like It’ on the experimental Tri Angle Records. The three tracks display a seamless marriage of UK glitch & bass culture, and sample based production with a futuristic R&B sheen and British pop sensibilities packing a contagious punch. Accolades  flooded in from everyone from the NME and The Guardian to Pitchfork and Spin, quickly highlighting AlunaGeorge as one of 2012′s brightest hopes. Hot off the heels of that resounding opening gambit, AlunaGeorge now announce their new single, ‘Your Drums, Your Love’ which will be released on October 7th via Island Records.

Picking up where ‘You Know You Like It’ left off, ‘Your Drums, Your Love’ continues the duo’s streak of cutting-edge club pop with an enticingly downbeat R&B ballad. Reid’s elusively liquid synths, rumbling low-end bass and hip-gyrating electronic sway provide a glistening backdrop to the sweet allure of Aluna’s voice, soaring with the arching, fragile refrain of “I’ve been treading water for your love”, evoking a distinctly 21st century sensation of dance-floor infatuation. Precision-honed, adventurous, infectiously catchy, ‘Your Drums, Your Love’ is further proof that AlunaGeorge embody 21st century British pop at its most instantly classic and exhilarating.

“Lustrous, sinister and ever so slightly weird”Pitchfork

“More thrillingly futuristic R&B from this London duo”The Guardian

AlunaGeorge play the Hare & Hounds Birmingham on Thursday 15th November 2012. Tickets available here.
