Tickets now on sale for The Front Bottoms

Following their excellent support slot with The Menzingers back in September, Birmingham Promoters are excited to announce The Front Bottoms will be returning to Birmingham, this time to headline the Hare & Hounds!

What can we say about The Front Bottoms? We know we love them: a punk band that uses acoustic guitar, indie-rock dance grooves,Springsteen-y keyboard lines (this they might deny). It’s hook-filled… it’s anthemic… it’s confessional. Maybe Joni Mitchell by way ofGreen Day? They must have heard some Replacements along the way, and it seems like what Jonathan Richman and the ModernLovers did for the Boston suburbs these guys are doing for Bergen County, NJ. But they still leave us scratching our heads. Just what the hell have the Front Bottoms alchemized?

Their self-titled debut album is out now via Bar/None Records.

THE FRONT BOTTOMS PLAY HARE & HOUNDS BIRMINGHAM ON WED 17TH APRIL 2013. TICKETS AVAILABLE HERE.

Happy 1st Birthday Le Lieu!

It has been a great first year for our friends at Le Lieu which has seen them introduce Birmingham to some of the top DJ’s & producers around including George Fitzgerald, XXXY, Jacques Greene and Jackmaster. So to celebrate they’ll be holding their first birthday bash right here at the Hare and Hounds and what better way to do it than with two brand new acts to the Birmingham scene. Spencer (numbers) a close friend of Leftfoot favourite Jackmaster and Dauwd.

Spencer co founder of the popular numbers label has been DJing since he was 12 with his selection of music crossing from hip-hop to techno, from soul to dance meaning we can’t guarantee exactly what he will be playing but we can guarantee you it’ll be good! You can check out his free to download mix from a few months back right here

Dauwd was born in the States but grew up in Wales and is definitely going to set Hare & Hounds a light with his first performance in Birmingham. With strong support from Rinse FM as well as nods from Dark Sky, Gilles Peterson and Caribou 2013 looks like a it’s going to be a good year for him.

It all kicks off Tonight at 9pm – 3am and is £7 entry on the door,  however there a few £5 Advanced tickets still available right here for a limited time.

Evil Alien return!

Enigmatic musical explorers Evil Alien are back with brand new single ‘Higher Than The Sun’ and an accompanying headline show at Birmingham’s Hare & Hounds.

Based around the core duo Glenn Smyth and Dave McCabe, the collective have been quietly going about their business bubbling amongst and beneath the cracks of the Birmingham underground and emerge with their own unbridled, cinematic soundscapes.

Seeing themselves as the ‘odd couple’ or even ‘Murtagh and Riggs’, a strange mix of personality that on paper shouldn’t work but almost certainly does when it comes to the music. The pair are inspired by their love of films and a shared belief in what they do and themselves and their music.

A sinister tale of lust, desperation, vulnerability and hope ‘Higher Than The Sun’ entices whilst seducing with a sublime dirge-like fragility that tracks back to early Massive Attack coupled with a chorus to literally die for…

‘Higher Than The Sun’ is available on limited 7” and CD  b/w ‘Out Of Love’ (Arc Vel Remix) and digitally via the bands website – www.evilalien.co.uk.

“Brummie collective channel the spirit of Primal Scream and Kasabian at their most uproarious. Top notch, bottom-booting banger ensues” – Q Magazine

EVIL ALIEN PLAY HARE & HOUNDS BIRMINGHAM ON FRIDAY 8TH FEBRUARY 2013, WITH SUPPORT FROM BIPOLAR BEARS. TICKETS AVAILABLE HERE.

Tickets now on sale for Maps & Atlases

Birmingham Promoters are teaming up with It’s Just Noise to bring Chicago’s finest Maps & Atlases to Birmingham!

In a musical landscape pitted with pop stars and pigeonholes, Maps & Atlases defy easy categorization, choosing to walk their own incomparable path.

Latest album ‘Beware and Be Grateful’ builds upon the Chicago-based band’s acclaimed Barsuk Records debut, ‘Perch Patchwork’, melding their trademark experimentalism with a more direct – though no less beguiling – songcraft. The new album abounds with invention, spanning hymnal harmonies, percolating rhythms – all gloriously liquid and lyrical, channeling M&A’s maximalist creativity into a truly inviting brand of boundary-busting, asymmetrical pop.

Since their formation in 2004, Maps & Atlases have captured the indie imagination with polyrhythmic beats, elaborate melodies, and post-rock ingenuity. With its blend of avant garde audacity and pop craftsmanship, ‘Beware and Be Grateful’ stands firmly in the great art rock tradition, a model synthesis of novelty and tradition, of listen ability and invention. Maps & Atlases have crafted a collection of resplendently human music, its intricate dynamics wholly matched by ornate wells of deep emotion.

Fossil Collective return to Hare & Hounds

Following their awesome show back in October, we are mega excited to be welcoming leeds duo Fossil Collective back to Hare & Hounds Birmingham in April 2013 with their intoxicating blend of exquisitely structured songs and glorious, rich harmonies.

Their first recordings saw them taking inspiration from classic albums by Neil YoungFleetwood Mac and Simon & Garfunkeland suggested comparisons with more contemporary artists such as Fleet FoxesMidlake and Bon Iver. But in truth their exquisitely structured songs and glorious, rich harmonies owe as much, if not more, to a solid English song tradition, and their material holds that distinct English quality that many North American artists hanker after.

Their EP track ‘Let It Go’ was iTunes Single of the Week, and also won backing from Steve Lamacq & XFM. Having toured with US grammy award winning duo The Civil Wars, as well as Ren Harvieu & Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Fossil Collective will embark on a massive 21 date tour in April 2013 to celebrate the release of their debut album.

FOSSIL COLLECTIVE PLAY HARE & HOUNDS BIRMINGHAM ON MON 22ND APRIL 2013. TICKETS AVAILABLE HERE

The Traps to play Hare & Hounds

Birmingham Promoters are teaming up with Speech Fewapy Records to celebrate The Traps awesome new single ‘Calypso’– the first official release on their own Birmingham based indie label – with a special release party at Hare & Hounds.

Combining upbeat tempos, an anthemic synth based beat, and a hooky guitar motif that will keep any indie dancefloor buzzing alongside a very cool vocal. The influence behind the track and indeed their debut album is the character Calypso from Homer’s Odyssey poem who captures Homer by leading his ship ashore.

The track was recorded with producer Rob Jones (aka The Voluntary Butler Scheme) earlier this year during studio sessions for their debut album ‘Calypso’, which will be released in early 2013.
Since the release of free downloads ‘Your Headland’ and ‘Moving Pictures’ earlier this year the band’s music has been featured onSony’s Mobile Entertainment portal, a Nivea promotional video and had their artwork selected as featured background on the popular file transfer site WeTransfer.
