NEW SHOW: Mutant Monster

We are delighted to welcome Japanese indie girl group Mutant Monster to Hare & Hounds on 20th November.

Formed in 2008 by sisters Be and Meana during their first year of high school, later to be joined by drummer Chad in 2012, Mutant Monster found inspiration from punk rock bands like The Clash, Sex Pistols, and The Ramones.

After a successful international touring start in Europe and the UK with Electric Six, they are making their way to the UK again for their second UK headline tour, bringing their eccentric punk energy to intimate shows around the country. Don’t miss out on their first headline at the Hare & Hounds, grab your tickets here!

New Show: Hunee

We’re delighted to announce that Red Bull Music in association with Leftfoot will be welcoming arguably one of the most talented and in demand selectors in the world, Hunee, to Hare & Hounds for a very special and intimate 250 cap show on Friday 28th September. Every DJ would like to think themselves a real musical connoisseur, but Hunee really is – it’s not him that says so, but pretty much anyone else. The Korean DJ has performed all over the world, from Australia to Asia, America to Europe. As likely to draw for a classic house record as he is a disco curveball, a boogie delight or mixing an African bomb into a techno record, each selection he makes is a thing of true passion – you can see it not only in his eyes, but so too in the eyes of those dancing along.

This is the only UK club show that Hunee will be performing at until October, and due to the extremely limited capacity, is probably the most intimate place you can expect to see him at anytime soon.

New Show: Malcolm Middleton

We’re pleased to announce that This Is Tmrw are welcoming Malcolm Middleton to the Hare & Hounds this December. The Scottish guitarist and songwriter is best known for his work with Aidan Moffat in Scottish rock legends ARAB STRAP, and has since established himself as a solo artist in the indie genre with six albums, releasing music under his own name as well as the alias HUMAN DON’T BE ANGRY. His most recent album, Summer of ’13, included singles such as ‘Steps’, and his forthcoming album ‘BANANAS’ will be released on 28th September on Triassic Tusk Records.

On ‘BANANAS’ Malcolm has teamed up with the acclaimed not-jazz trio JEANSY, JONES & SMILLIE (David Jeans DRUMS, Stevie Jones DOUBLE BASS and Graeme Smillie PIANO) to produce an album that is both scathing and nice. With new songs like “BUZZ LIGHTYEAR HELMET”, “LOVE IS A MOMENTARY LAPSE IN SELF-LOATHING” and “PISS OFF LIFE, JUST KILL ME NOW” (that last one is a joke), Malcolm continues to report back from the depths of the everyday whilst attempting to monetise HELL. Adding a dose of saccharine to the mix, the Samaratinesque choir of Kenny Anderson (KING CREOSOTE), Jenny Reeve (BDY_PRTS) and Dan Wilson (WITHERED HAND) courageously manage to pull Malcolm back from the brink of many a teetering jont just as he’s about to disappear up his own proverbial.

This Saturday, we welcome Rhino & The Ranters plus friends for an all-day Bank Holiday special!

Rhino and the Ranters are infamous for their high octane live sets and have been exciting audiences across the UK since they were gathered by Ryan Webb in London in 2009. Their raucous delivery and on-stage charisma has earned them a Faithful congregation. They released their debut album, The Hanging Room in 2010 which includes many favourites of their live set, such as: Dr Ink, Radio Joe, Needlework and the unforgettable, Hallelujah. Songwriter, Ryan blends the dark imagery of death, witchcraft, addiction and madness with humour and wordplay all set to mesmerising melodies.

The Band have released a 4 track EP, Half Quixote, currently available, and are currently working on their second album.

The Ranters are now situated in the industrial gothic beast that is Birmingham and enjoy a large but cult status in the city. Last 75 Tickets For Sons Of Kemet This October!

This October, Leftfoot & THSH Jazzlines welcome Sons Of Kemet as part of their ‘UK Jazz Season’ programme, and there are less than 75 tickets left!

With a unique sounds that effortlessly blends the contemporary London jazz sound with the dynamic vibe of new orleans, pulsating west african rhythms, caribbean dub flavors and unmistakable hard rock sensibility, live shows from this groundbreaking band are now entering the stuff of legend.

The credentials accumulated by the group are astonishing; led by saxophonist, clarinettist and composer Shabaka Hutchings awarded a ‘BBC New Generation Artist’ title, this is a ‘supergroup’ of sorts, featuring Theon Cross on tuba and both Eddie Hick and Tom Skinner (Met Yourself Down, Mulatu Astatke) on drums.

New Show: Alfa Mist

We’re pleased to announce that Leftfoot & THSH Jazzlines have announced another show from their ‘UK Jazz Season’ programme which will be taking place from this September. Producer and pianist Alfa Mist joins the already announced Kamaal Williams, Yussef Dayes, Sons Of Kemet & Ezra Collective as he performs at Hare & Hounds Kings Heath this November!

Alfa Mist isn’t one to blow his own trumpet. Despite myriad skills as a blossoming musician, he describes himself on his Bandcamp page as simply a ‘producer/composer’.

With a number of releases to his name, including short EPs Nocturne and the neo-soul driven Epoch with vocalist Emmavie, Alfa’s taste has recently taken a turn more towards the jazzier side of things with his recently released EP, the excellent Antiphon.

One of the members of Are We Live, a creative quartet that also includes Tom Misch, Jordan Rakei and Barney Artist, he recently blew the roof off at Mau Mau Bar for his Antiphon release show for Jazz re:freshed.

A mellow, luxurious and self-described ‘unapologetic’ listen, Antiphon takes melancholic jazz harmonies and blends then with alt hip-hop and soul stylings, to beautiful results.

Tickets are on sale now and can be picked up here.

New Show: Jamie Isaac

Classically trained in piano, part of the jazz scene in London, we’re pleased to announce that This Is Tmrw will be welcoming the incredibly talented Jamie Isaac to Hare & Hounds this November!

Jamie Isaac is a prolific young producer and songwriter from London – and according to the Guardian’s Kitty Empire, “an unlikely heir to Sade.” His music melds soul, R&B, electronics, ambient choral melodies and hip hop, as well as the omnipresent influence of cool era jazz – artists like Chet Baker, Paul Desmond, Blossom Dearie and Dave Brubeck. His critically acclaimed debut album, ‘Couch Baby’, became a cult classic in 2016 – “the greatest album of its kind we’ve heard this year” [Noisey], and was propelled by remixes and features from his famous friends both in London and across the US (King Krule, Denzel Curry, Rejjie Snow, Allan Kingdom, Wiki, Sporting Life).

New Show: Jigsawmusic 15th Birthday with Luke Unabomber

We’re pleased to announce that Jigsawmusic will be celebrating 15 years this September, and will be welcoming Manchester legend Luke Unabomber to help with the proceedings.

Luke Unabomber and DJ partner Justin Unabomber founded the Electric Chair club night in Manchester some time after the middle half of the 1990s. The night was, in part, a reaction to the strict house music sound that had dominated Manchester’s clubs since the late 1980s, but had veered off course musically since the spirited days of acid house and was burdened with associations to gang violence.

Electric Chair ripped up the rule book. It wasn’t the first club night to offer an eclectic soundtrack, but alongside Manchester contributors like Mr Scruff, the Fat City connected nights and others, Electric Chair helped establish a fresh, new Manchester club sound that was at the time unique within the UK.

As resident DJs, The Unabombers had their own special way of building a night’s soundtrack with this multi music format. It took in hip hop and other breakbeat music and generally built in tempo to cover funk, soul, disco and house music.

With such a free music policy they were able to invite incredibly varied guest DJs to join them, some known as specialists in reggae or hip hop, others for techno, house or disco. They, in turn, could sometimes offer at Electric Chair a wildly different set from their usual shows, let loose on the furthest reaches of their record collections thanks to the club’s anything (good) goes music policy.

From Electric Chair the duo expanded their portfolio. They took on international DJ dates and founded a clandestine, sporadic and nomadic sister party the Electric Soul events. Luke joined Justin, who had long been associated with music making as a bass player (most notably in New Fast Automatic Daffodils) and later as solo artist Only Child, in the studio.

The fruits of their studio efforts were a series of re-edits on their own label, several well received mix compilations and original music produced under the Elektrons guise, the latter being released by Wall Of Sound (below).

New Show: DJ Luck & MC Neat

We’re delighted to announce that UK garage legends DJ Luck & MC Neat will be returning to Hare & Hounds this September!

DJ Luck & MC Neat are a British musical duo, comprising of Joel Samuels (aka DJ Luck) and Michael Rose (aka MC Neat), mainly performing a combination of House Music, UK Garage & DnB. They have had three consecutive UK Top 10 hits and are primarily known for, ‘A Little Bit Of Luck’, which started as a promotional dubplate, released at the price of £50! The track peaked at #9 in the UK charts. That same year, they released a cover of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Master Blaster (Jammin)’, re-titling it ‘Masterblaster 2000’, which featured the vocals of JJ, who is on a number of Luck & Neat’s songs. The track was their highest British chart entry, reaching #5 and their version of ‘Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us’ reached #8. The duo also made an appearance on Top of The Pops performing their UK #12 track, ‘Piano Loco’.

After the initial three chart hits they enjoyed, the majority of their work, along with their debut album, was produced along with, or by, the underground musician Shy Cookie, who was responsible for the shift in their music from sample based to programmed (original) and live instruments, helping them to maintain underground credibility that in turn helped fuel their mainstream success.

To date, DJ LUCK & MC NEAT are still the busiest UK Garage act on the scene and can be found at numerous weekly events across the UK & Internationally throughout the year.
