New Show: Ryan McMullan

We’re delighted to be welcoming Ryan McMullan back to the Hare & Hounds on December 11th, after his sell-out show here earlier this September.

Ryan McMullan’s talent is a rare jewel in the crown of the current popular music scene. With a voice raw with story telling and filled with rich and varied tones, Ryan’s youth clearly doesn’t deter from his ability to communicate story and emotion. Home to the likes of Foy Vance and Iain Archer, Northern Ireland is and always has been a hub of song writing talent. Ryan McMullan is no exception.

Hailing from Portaferry, a small seaside town in Northern Ireland, the 25 year old is a fresh new talent on the singer/songwriter scene. With a voice reminiscent of Paolo Nutini and early Tom Waits, Ryan has been putting in the necessary graft in local pubs for a number of years. His voice and potential has recently caught the attention of other singer songwriters also born out of the grass roots Northern Ireland music scene. With their backing, Ryan’s craft of songwriting being harnessed and endorsed by some of the music industries biggest names, Ryan’s future is certainly set to be a bright one.

Check out the video below of Ryan performing an impromptu song backstage, you can tell that this boy has talent.

New Show: Natty

We’re delighted to announce that the incredible Natty will be returning to the Hare & Hounds on Tuesday 28th November!

It can be easy to fall into the trap of trying to pigeonhole this eclectic artist’s style as reggae-soul. However, scratch beneath the surface and there are hidden depths to the chart-topping Natty who effortlessly fuses many genres and vibes into a melting pot of sounds which can be described as the gritty yet uplifting soundtrack to many young people’s lives growing up in the UK today. Being of African and British heritage, he soaked up the sounds of artists including Neil Young, Fela Kuti and Bob Marley. The vast scope of influences can be heard within Natty’s own compositions, yet he brings something refreshing and unique to the world of popular music.

New Show: Nick Hakim

We’re delighted to announce that This Is Tmrw will be teaming up with Leftfoot to bring singer-songwriter Nick Hakim to the H&H on the 12th February.

Hakim’s music is emotionally rich and runs the gamut of R&B, jazz, electronica and hip-hop, taking cues from greats like Marvin Gaye, Shuggie Otis, Portishead, Madlib and Wu Tang. Hakim’s debut comes as the culmination of years chiseling his skills as a musician. Hailing from Washington, D.C., he grew up in a musical household—his older brother introduced him to bands like Bad Brains and Nirvana, and his parents exposed him to Nueva canción—while he set out on his own to discover the DC music scene. He didn’t take an interest in learning an instrument until later in high school, when he taught himself to play the keys. After graduation, he moved to Boston to continue his study of music. In the time since moving to Brooklyn and setting to work for three years on Green Twins, he embraced the live circuit, both as a solo musician and with his band, whom he’s brought together from within his community in Boston and New York.

Check out the music video for his single ‘Roller Skates‘ below

We’re pleased to announce that This Is Tmrw will be bringing Clap Your Hands Say Yeah to the H&H as part of their ‘Some Loud Thunder’ Anniversary Tour next May!

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (often abbreviated CYHSY) is the musical project of American indie rock musician Alec Ounsworth. The group was founded in 2004 and is based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Brooklyn, New York.  All the band members attended Connecticut College, in New London, Connecticut, United States. Their debut album, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, recorded by Adam Lasus (Genius + Love = Yo La Tengo/The Dirt of Luck), was self-released in 2005, receiving attention from numerous MP3 blogs and a favourable review from Pitchfork Media, who gave the band a “Best New Music” commendation.

New Show: Chaos In The CBD

We’re delighted to be welcoming down the incredible Chaos In The CBD to the Hare & Hounds on November 18th.

The first time Chaos graced the decks at the Hare & Hounds they took the roof off. That was two years ago and since then they’ve blown up, with Boiler Room sets, the launch of their label In Dust We Trust and headline slots at many of the best international festivals. The kiwi bro’s first gained underground notoriety with their debut release on Rhythm Section in 2015, ‘Midnight in Peckham’. That trademark sound of complex drum patterns and ethereal sounds hasn’t left their production, but their DJ’s sets can take on a whole different beast. On the 18th November, we’re expecting Chaos to bring the party with a high energy set of Disco, House, Techno and everything in between.

Also back for a second time is the hugely talented, anu, one of the heads behind Rhythm Section. Anu’s a DJ, illustrator and Radio Host who’s name is becoming more and more commonplace among some of the best underground lineups in the UK, and we can’t wait to welcome her back.
Check out their Boiler Room from earlier this year below:

New Show: Confidence Man

We’re delighted to announce that This Is Tmrw & Sonic Gun we will be bringing Confidence Man to the Hare & Hounds on Thursday 7th December, as part of their forthcoming tour.

Confidence Man’s “whole point”, they say, “is about dancing and getting down.” Since September 2016, they’ve been making a name for themselves in Australia, but they’ve only recently signed to Heavenly in the UK. We’re delighted to be welcoming the highly anticipated and  mysterious band to Birmingham for the first time.

Check out the video for their single ‘Boyfriend (Repeat)’ below:

New Show: Surgeon, Steve Davis & Kavus Torabi, DJ Bus Replacement Service

We’re looking forward to teaming up with Supersonic Festival to bring Surgeon (DJ Set), Steve Davis & Kavus Torabi and DJ Bus Replacement Service to the H&H.

Surgeon has been at the forefront of UK techno since 1994. His debut EP is regarded by many as seminal, launching his career along with several early Downwards releases, causing a ripple of excitement through the techno cognoscenti of the time. Surgeon has been prolific since, with three albums on Tresor and numerous Counterbalance and Dynamic Tension EPs as well as his ‘Breaking The Frame’ LP in 2011 “Over the course of his career, the Birmingham resident has perfected a unique and uncommonly effective production style. His is a tough techno sound with an industrial murk about it but also plenty of funk, swing and a sophisticated sense of dub-space learned in part from his Chain Reaction contemporaries in Berlin. Proving that hard can also be smart, sensuous and danceable, the influence of Surgeon on the 2010-ruling Ostgut/Berghain sound – DJs/producers like Marcel Dettmann, Shed et al – is substantial”. (Fact Magazine)

Steve Davis – the legendary sporting phenomenon from the 80s who took snooker to new heights and as presenter of The Interesting Alternative Show on Pheonix FM brought prog and jazz oddities to his cult audience, now turns his hands to the decks. As a hobby which he claims has spun out of control, his notorious 2016 Glastonbury set at the 500 capacity Stonebridge bar was mobbed by a curious turned shocked and enthralled crowd. With a packed out DJ diary since, Steve has continued to woo party goers from Bluedot to Bloc Festival. Drawing from an eclectic array of influences: Magma, Caravan, Oscar Perry, Soft Machine and Gong to name but a few – Steve spins together a unique set in his quest to deliver the music he loves to lovers of the party.

New Show: Childhood

We are pleased to announce that This Is Tmrw will be bringing Childhood back to the Hare & Hounds on Sunday 19th November, this time as part of their UK tour!

Following the release of their critically acclaimed album ‘Universal High‘, the band return to the Hare & Hounds this November. Ben says, “’Universal High’ represents many things to us as a band. It signifies change, both musically and mentally whilst also revisiting influences that confounded our interest in music in the first place. What I think is noticeable is the direct nature of the songs and its influences. Being surrounded by soul music, classic pop songs and music with any form of groove all my life, these influences began to speak for themselves within these new songs we were writing”.

Check out the video for their single ‘Californian Light’ from the album below:

Tickets are on sale at 10am on Friday 8th September and can be bought here.

New Show: Black Uhuru Performed By Mykal Rose

We’re delighted to announce that we will be welcoming the reggae legend Mykal Rose to the Hare & Hounds on Sunday 15th October.

For over 25 years, Mykal Rose has been recording and performing his brand of militant, hardcore Jamaican music to the delight of reggae fans around the world. As a solo artist, with Black Uhuru, and back as a solo artist, the “Ruff” Rose has achieved great success throughout his career, even as different Jamaican musical styles have phased in and out of popularity.

Black Uhuru’s first full length was released in 1977 and called Love Crisis. It was produced by King Jammy (then Prince Jammy), and the big hit of the album was “I Love King Selassie.” But it was not until the Showcase album was released in 1980-with a new lineup of Mykal Rose, Duckie Simpson, and Puma Jones-that Black Uhuru reached their creative peak. Heartbeat reissued the set on CD (Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner, HB 18), which includes the massive 12″ singles “Shine Eye Gal,” “General Penitentiary,” “Plastic Smile,” and of course, “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner.” At the forefront of the recordings and live shows was the charismatic Mykal Rose, who had incredible stage presence and a vocal style all his own. So popular was his trademark sound that singers like Don Carlos, Junior Reid, Yami Bolo , and others embraced it as the “Waterhouse” sound.
