New Show: Imarhan

We’re pleased to announce that This Is Tmrw & Moseley Folk Festival will be joining forces to bring Algeria’s Imarhan to the H&H on Wednesday 3rd August.

Touring in support of their self titled debut album Imarhan are intent on dismantling the ideas western listeners have about popularized Tuareg music. This new wave of Tuareg musicians sound very different to the desert distortion that accompanies groups like Mdou Moctar or Group Inerane. Instead, it finds a calm and passionate soul, provides sumptuous slow burners, and a complexity of composition that hasn’t been demonstrated by previous music exported from the Saharan people’s musical repertoire. Diet Cig To Play the Hare & Hounds Tomorrow Night

This Is Tmrw bring New York based two piece, Diet Cig to the Hare & Hounds tomorrow night

After beginning as a casual project between Alex Luciano (guitar) and Noah Bowman (drums), Diet Cig have made a big statement out of five highly infectious pop songs. The pair met under rather unusual circumstances: Luciano, desperate for a lighter, interrupted the set of Bowman’s other band, Earl Boykins. No lighter was to be found, but a friendship was sparked and Diet Cig was born. The duo’s February 2015 debut EP, Over Easy, consists of lyrics written by Luciano in her bedroom. While recalling the sound of speedy twee-pop groups like Tiger Trap and All Girl Summer Fun Band, the record explores “the innocence of adolescence and infatuation.” With Bowman’s crashing drum kit offering stationary support, Luciano becomes an onstage tornado as lines between band and audience blur into a massive dance party. Homeshake Play The H&H This Wednesday

Homeshake is the pseudonym and solo project of Edmonton-born, Montreal-based musician Peter Sagar. As follow up to his 2014 debut In the Shower, Homeshake will be touring in support of his latest full length offering  ‘Midnight Snack’ which was recorded with Jackson MacIntosh at the Drones club in Montreal. Musically this time around Sagar trades in his guitar for synthesizers and a drum machine, developing vocal arrangements from loops he created for his solo set. He pulled influence from house pioneers like Chip E and Mr. Fingers as well as Japanese pop starlets like Chiemi Manabe, slowing down the tempo with his own homemade drowsiness. The resulting collection is an eclectic tangle of personal anecdotes steeped in an everlasting reverence of D’Angelo and R Kelly. Check out the single ‘Heat’ below;

The group features Nyatiti master Joseph Nyamungu and Lou percussionist Charles Owoko, both from the Nyanza Province in Western Kenya, as well as London-based musicians Tom Skinner (drums), Jesse Hackett (vox/keys) and Louis Hackett (bass). Mothers Play The H&H This Monday 23rd May

This Is Tmrw will be bringing Mothers (Wichita Records) to the H&H this Monday 23rd May.

The Athens, GA-based quartet will be touring in support of their debut album ‘When You Walk A Long Distance You Are Tired’ released via Wichita Records on February 26th. Produced by Drew Vandenberg – who has worked on albums by Of Montreal, Deerhunter and Porcelain Raft – at Chase Park Transduction in Athens, Georgia in December 2014, ‘When You Walk A Long Distance You Are Tired’ features collaborations with Josh McKay of Deerhunter on vibraphone as well as McKendrick Bearden of Grand Vapids, who played bass and provided string arrangements throughout. Comprised of eight songs – the majority of which were written while Leschper was finishing art school in early 2014 – Mothers’ debut LP is an introduction to the foundations of the young band, a snapshot of a particular period of their genesis that maps both where they began and where they are heading.
