Proper Presents DJ Pierre This Saturday at the H&H

In 1985, 3 friends made a record that they gave to Ron Hardy at The Music Box.  Ron played the record 4 times that night, causing mayhem on the dancefloor.  That record was Phuture – Acid Tracks and it’s subsequent release led to the worldwide Acid House phenomena. We are delighted that Proper in association with Rave Against Racism bring the man behind that record, as well as many others, the godfather of Acid House, DJ Pierre to the Hare & Hounds tomorrow night for a special 3 hour set.

Adolphus Tips To Play The H&H Next Tuesday 24th March

Next Tuesday see’s Adolphus Tips play the Hare & Hounds as part of their Captain Hindsight UK tour.

While some bands take elements of post rock, mix in a couple math rock riffs and a smattering of freak-out experimental rock, Adolphus Tips grow the secret ingredient under a couple heat lamps in their garage. This Northampton quartet have musical wisdom beyond their years and use it to craft beautiful crescendos that ebb and flow. With crashing highs juxtaposed with angelic three part harmonies, Adolphus Tips cast a spell over anyone wise enough to take a listen. Check out their single Leafeater below;

Lotte Mullan & Jazz Morley play Hare & Hounds on Wed 25th March

Dubbed as the female Bob Dylan, Lotte has built a dedicated following with her personal, story telling songs that chronicle everyday life with heartbreaking honesty. The British music press raved about Lotte’s self released debut album Plain Jane christening her Indie-Country sound ‘Anglicana’ and crowing her “Suffolk’s Joni Mitchell”.

Lotte will be playing intimate versions of songs from her latest album Love’s Bonfire, released on 9th March, and made out in Nashville with Band of Horses.

Fiercely DIY, Lotte turned down a major label deal with Warners and runs her own label Raindog Records. A blog she was writing about her misadventures in the music business was snapped up for a book and film deal by Elton John’s Rocket Pictures and Ridley Scott Productions used four of Lotte’s songs to soundtrack their latest short film ‘Kismet Diner’ which has had over 3 million hits on Youtube and won first prize at Manhattan Short film Festival. Echo Lake To Play the H&H This Thursday

This Is Tmrw bring Echo Lake to the Hare & Hounds this Thursday in support of their second full length album Era

Debut album Wild Peace was released in June 2012, after the then five piece had surfaced 18 months prior to a flurry of blog attention. The record is a near-perfect encapsulation of their early sound, with critics calling it “dazzling, hypnotic and deliriously seductive” and “truly magnificent”. However loud the acclaim, the release was inevitably overshadowed by the shock death of drummer Peter Hayes a few days before release.

The band recovered in private. The songwriting pair of guitarist Thom Hill and vocalist Linda Jarvis would spend two years working on the tracks which would form Era in East London’s Holy Mountain Studio, the first time the band had spent in a professional studio. The album is a result of this experience; far maturer, denser and considered than the band’s home recorded debut. Points recall the textures and expansive ambition of Spaceman 3, Neu! and Deerhunter yet the album is never stylistically referential to any particular period or style.

Instead, at seven tracks and 45 minutes length Era is a deep, singular work deserving of full and repeat listening. The album’s defining tracks are ‘Dröm’ and ‘Waves’, both built around hard, totemic rhythm sections and maximal dynamics. By contrast ‘Era’ is a perfect guitar-pop track; submissive, alluring and playful in restraint. The ten minute closer ‘Heavy Dreaming’ leaves the album on a triumphant tone, and ends a near three year silence from one of the UK’s most promising bands. Check out the video for their latest single ‘Waves’ below
