Soulvation Presents 'Out On The Floor Tonight' with Neil Self & Jerry Hipkiss

Soulvation returns to the H&H this Friday 27th Febuary for a night of vinatge adrenalin soul & 100% classic Northern Soul floorfillers

“If you were there you’ll know, If you weren’t, you’ll wish you had been”. That’s the tag line for the film Norther Soul but is just as apt as a description for the debut Soulvation Northern Soul party at the Hare & Hounds on October 10 last year. The night was a celebration of the film, but ended up a success in its’ own right with people queuing up to get in 30 minutes before the start, and the dancefloor packed from start to finish, with happy smiley faces savoring an energy rammed atmosphere.

As a result & by popular demand, Soulvation are back for a another party this Friday from 8pm to 2am with DJs Neil Self & Jerry Hipkiss direct from the long running Soulfusion events. Advanced £5 tickets are on sale now, you can get hold of yours by clicking here.

New Show: Ugly Duckling to play H&H

We’re pleased to announce that AGMP will be bringing West Coast Hip-Hop trio Ugly Duckling to the Hare & Hounds this May

Ugly Duckling’s musical sound is a combination of late 80’s/early 90’s hip hop, funk, soul, and jazz with plenty of humor and high-spirited skillfulness from both lyricists and DJ. Audiences and critics have agreed over the years that Ugly Duckling’s brand of hip hop is unique and authentic while the stage show is always fun, exciting, and super tight. Comparable to groups like Jurassic 5, The Pharcyde, and A Tribe Called Quest, the band knows how to make listeners feel good and has kept their musical authenticity throughout the years, avoiding the pitfalls and embarrassment of pop star ambition.

New Show: Romare to DJ the Hare & Hounds

We’re pleased to announce that Vacuum Boogie & Leftfoot will be joining forces to bring Romare (Ninja Tunes) to the H&H this March.

One of the most exciting British talents to emerge from the electronic world of late, Romare’s music combines a seriousness of intent with a thrilling immediacy. The discovery of revered American collagist Romare Bearden whilst at university became a lightning bolt moment, as is revealed by the moniker he chose for himself. More importantly, Bearden’s collages inspired the young musician to pursue a similar technique in his productions, harnessing its power to illuminate and assert through re-contextualisation.

With two vinyl EP releases on the excellent Black Acre label – Meditations on Afrocentrism (2012) and Love Songs: Part One (2013) – fiercely supported by the likes of Benji B, Gilles Peterson, Huw Stephens and Bonobo, Romare’s music has, rightfully, already caused a stir. A true artist, Romare’s music moves the mind as much as the feet, its sense of detail married to its mood, melody and passion. Check out his Boiler Room set from November last year below:

It all kicks off at 9pm on Friday 27th March, £5 early bird tickets have already sold out with advanced £7 now available here.

Sons of Bill To Play the H&H Next Tuesday

Cosmic American Music bring Americana Country outfit Sons of Bill to the H&H on Tuesday 17th February.

It’s easy to say that Sons of Bill can sound more like Townes Van Zandt or early R.E.M. depending on the track, even moving into their own brand of down-home psychedelia that American Songwriter described as a “countrified Pink Floyd.” But the real achievement of Love and Logic is the song writing, the Wilson brothers’ ability to craft literate and deeply introspective lyrics while still managing to deliver it all as a rock and roll band. It’s a soul-searcher’s soundtrack for an over-stimulated age. A roots rock album that stands out above the all rest.

Sons of Bill became more than Charlottesville’s best kept secret with the release of the Sirens LP, a brash rock and roll record, which debuted on the Billboard top 200 and #12 on the Heatseekers chart in 2012. The band toured extensively on both sides of the Atlantic for a year and a half and gained some notoriety for their fiery live performances and road dog work ethic. But Love and Logic certainly marks a turning point for the band- a more sober, reflective, version of themselves- the sound of a band coming into its own. Check out the bands latest single ‘Bad Dancer’ below;
