BC Camplight to play the Hare & Hounds

Lost treasure needn’t be found in the distant past; the 21st century hides many artists who disappeared into the great wide yonder. BC Camplight is one such example. The alter-ego of American songwriter Brian Christinzio released albums in 2005 and 2007, both gems of a certain psych-pop vintage, combining eloquent songwriting with a self-destructive bent. Christinzio certainly knew it – he’s described himself as, “the guy who blew it.”

But this sublime talent with the keening vocal and fearless approach to lyrical introspection has another chance. His new album How To Die In The North, recorded in his newly adopted home of Manchester, England, is a fantastically rich, stylistically diverse trip. From dramatic, layered pop to a haunted take on Sixties sunshine-pop, from blue-eyed soul to speedy surf-pop, from sparser piano balladry to psychedelic showstoppers and a grand finale that’s part Nilsson and part Broadway showtune. Post-school, he fell in with people, “willing to go through shit to be a musician,” which saw him relocate to Philadelphia where he occasionally played live with Philly faves The War On Drugs and guested on Sharon Van Etten’s album ‘Epic’.

He’s already done two sessions for long-term fan Marc Riley at BBC 6 Music, which featured Christinzio’s band of Mancunians who he met at The Castle Hotel pub, a watering hole in the city centre particularly popular with musicians. Christinzio also heard John Grant’s album on the jukebox there, which encouraged him to approach Bella Union. Grant’s cocktail of depression and self-sabotage thwarted an outrageous talent, but he took his second chance. The same deserves to happen to Christinzio, a similarly outsize, sharp and funny personality with a non-conformist streak. Far from dying, BC Camplight has been reborn in the North!

How To Die In The North will be released 19th January on Bella Union.

Laetitia Sadier to Play the Hare & Hounds

For as long as records are made — or at least listened to in some fashion, Laetitia Sadier will forever be linked with Stereolab, the band she has fronted with ex-partner Tim Gane throughout the heady pre-and-post-millennial years of the past two decades. But 2009 signaled changes — Stereolab announced an indefinite hiatus and Laetitia disbanded her original solo project/band, Monade.

Laetitia Sadier’s new album has just been delivered, and it’s a joy! Something Shines was recorded and matured more slowly than either Silencio or The Trip. It took nine months, and you know what that means, baby! New life…. Something Shines was initially recorded in Switzerland, where Laetitia’s collaborator David collects amazing old keyboards and organs from people who have inherited them but find no space or usage for them — so they let go of these useless things (useless to them, mind bogglingly desirable and necessary for us!) for a symbolic franc.

Beans on Toast plays Hare & Hounds this Wednesday!

With a fresh spring in his step after an incredible start to the year, which saw him conquer his first American headline tour, play a series of shows with Flogging Molly in the US and perform to over 100,000 people in just one week whilst opening Frank Turner’s UK stadium tour in February, Beans On Toast will be heading back onto the UK live circuit for 16 dates across the country including a performance at theHare & Hounds on December 3rd.

Marking the release of his sixth studio album with Xtra Mile Recordings, as is tradition on his 1st December birthday, ‘The Next Album Tour 2014’ will be an unforgettable experience as the singer, storyteller and guitar player’s self-deprecating nature goes a long way to break down the barriers between musician and audience, creating a real sense of equality.

With digital single ‘Keep You’ added to the XFM Evening Playlist at the start of the year, a ‘Best of Toast Pressed on Vinyl’ flying off the shelves for Independent Record Store Day and his busiest upcoming festival season yet, anything is now possible for this unmissable performer.

The Little Unsaid to Play the H&H

The Little Unsaid  is the pseudonym of John Elliott, Yorkshire born multi instrumentalist, producer and writer who records and performs a unique blend of folk, electronica, poetic lyricism and lavish orchestration.

The 2013 album ‘Dig For The Promise’ was mixed and coproduced by Graeme Stewart (producer and engineer for Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead). It featured acoustic arrangements entwined around electronic beats and melodies constructed from ‘found sounds,’
which were recorded around the streets of London. The single ‘Midnight On An Island’ received repeated BBC 6 radio play and was hailed by esteemed indie music blog Dots and Dashes as one of the genre’s ‘grandest successes thus far.’

This Summer saw the release of a five track EP combined with a book of poetry under the collective title ‘A Filthy Hunger,’ exploring themes of distorted human connection in the modern world. The music was recorded with producer/engineer Brett Shaw (Daughter, Florence and the Machine) with John writing all the parts and playing all of the instruments himself aside from the string arrangements, which were performed by regular collaborators the Southfields String Quartet. The project was crowd funded by fans using pre orders and exclusive offers such as limited edition artwork, remixes and private home concerts.  Check out the video of him performing his single ‘Hunger’ live below;
