When Aziz Ibrahim and Dalbir Singh Rattan met in South Africa a few years ago, sparks started flying.
Guitar virtuoso Aziz and classically-trained tabla player Dalbir together have an energy that takes their music through and beyond rock, punk and indie, fusing Western and Asian influences to leave audiences breathless.
Both have impeccable credentials. Mancunian Aziz has performed with The Stone Roses, Asia, Ian Brown and Jah Wobble (with whom he is currently on tour as special featured guest in Invaders of the Heart) and has for years written for Brown and Paul Weller. Birmingham-born Dalbir is one of the most respected players in the classical field, having as his mentor Shri Sukhvinder Singh Namdhari; he has also worked with Richard Ashcroft and Ocean Colour Scene. Both have toured with Marillion and worked with Steve Hogarth (Marillion) and Richard Barbieri (Porcupine Tree/Japan), while Dalbir is an integral creative force on both Aziz’s albums, Lahore to Longsight and Rusholme Rock.
Their combined sound is an infectious, enthralling riot of melody and percussion that relies on finely-honed skills, electrifying energy and some unique techniques that delights every audience, including their peers.
