We Were Evergreen To Play Hare & Hounds

Following previously released underground track ‘Leeway’, this exciting trio have now completed their debut album, set for release in the 5th May 2014 via Mi7/Island Records. The first offering from the LP comes on 3 rd March 2014 with brand new single ‘Daughters’.

Born in Paris but now firmly based in London, We Were Evergreen are a unique band with a fresh sound – an exciting amalgamation of beats and rhythms from across the world, warm vocals and electronic-pop melodies. The results are universal modern tales that draw on the power of images to create songs both happy and dark whilst predominantly feeding on the carefree fun of just being young.

‘Daughters’ is a thrilling synth-pop track, which provides the perfect taster of what is to come on We Were Evergreen’s debut album. The accompanying video is equally unique and was shot in one take with 20 female dancers. Having already received plays across various stations including 6 Music and XFM, ‘Daughters’ is as catchy as it is credible – an intelligent musing that will essentially make people want to get up and dance.

Intrinsic to the We Were Evergreen philosophy is their vital live show. Having built up a super-strong live following after early shows at SXSW, CMJ and Secret Garden Party and support slots for Little Dragon and London Grammar, the band have already played their own sold out shows across Europe. With the debut album ready, the band can’t wait to play the full set live and push the fan-base ever wider.

Bo Ningen To Play Hare & Hounds

From the heart of Tokyo to a village in the mountains, Bo Ningen are from all over Japan and met in London. After many continual twelve hour jams had blurred the distinction between their limbs and their instruments, they played the first “true” Bo Ningen show. The story of the next two years followed a fairytale pattern of adversity with the eventual catharsis of now being regarded by many as London’s best live band.

By this point Bo Ningen had struck up with Stolen Recordings releasing their first EP on 10” vinyl quickly followed by their debut album Bo Ningen. Snowballing interest saw them taken up as something like international art pin-ups, collaborating with Tim Noble & Sue Webster, Copenhagen Film Festival, the Venice Biennale, and the Yohji Yamamoto V&A exhibition. They also performed at Yoko Ono’s 2013 Meltdown Festival. Meanwhile, their prodigal son-style homecoming to Japan were surreal daydreams in which they appeared alongside personal heroes Damo Suzuki, Keiji Haino, Merzbow & Guitar Wolf. They have also played with The Horrors, Savages, Faust, The Cult, SCUM, TOY & British Sea Power.

Musically, they channel their country’s legacy of obscure, brain-warping heavy-psych: all traceable beneath their esoteric sound. It’s evident however that they were in the mood for discovery: fusing their tastes in Acid Folk and Noise and hurling them into the electric cataclysm along with a weighty dose of Sabbath and Nirvana.

Meadowlark to Play H&H on Monday 26th May

On Monday 26th May Transmission Group in association with Metropolis Music bring Plymouth based three piece, Meadowlark, to the Hare & Hounds in support of their debut EP ‘Three Six Five’.

Lead Track ‘Family Tree’ is the perfect introduction to Meadowlark, as it blends cinematic orchestral arrangements with sparse, echoing piano chimes and subtle guitar swirls that bring to mind the pristine pop traits of London Grammar. Over the course of the EP’s four tracks however, Meadowlark display a diverse pool of emotion, influence and style that range from the hushed, brooding moments on the aptly titled ‘Forlorn’ to the joyous sing-along crescendos on ‘I’ve Got You’.

As eluded to by the debut EP’s title, the band have been together for just a year (almost exactly to the EP’s release date) after meeting at a Tallest Man On Earth gig and instantly deciding to join forces. The band are fronted by chief songwriter Kate McGill who, at the time of meeting bandmates Carl Jones and Daniel Broadley (who often rotate instrumental duties), was the 13th most subscribed to musician on YouTube, tallying up millions of hits on her covers of Adele, Fleet Foxes and The Shins.

The Three Six Five EP was recorded and produced by Peter Miles (Dry The River, We Are The Ocean, Sonic Boom Six) at Middle Farm Studios over a period of one week. It boasts four intricate and introspective songs that showcase Meadowlark’s collaborative ability to rework McGill’s songs into fully-fledged soundscapes that reference their mutual love for Bon Iver and Sigur Ros.
