65daysofstatic to play Hare & Hounds

Birmingham Promoters are super excited to be welcoming the mindblowing 65daysofstatic to Birmingham for an intimate show at the Hare & Hounds on Thurs 29th August 2013!

Since their last ‘usual’ record, 2010’s ‘We Were Exploding Anyway’,65daysofstatic have taken their sound to places bands don’t always get to go and are showing no signs of slowing down. A mixture of touring, soundtracking, more touring, remixing and collaborations with artists, scientists and dancers has opened up a world of possibilities for them, and 2012 saw them doing what they do best – writing a new studio record that they can take back out on the road.

65’s early years marked them as a band impossible to define. In a certain light, sure, they were a ‘post-rock’ band, sharing stages and a mastery of dynamics with stalwarts like Mogwai and Explosions in the Sky. 2007 brought a back- of-the-van tour of America with post-hardcore bands. A year later they returned as an ‘arena band’, opening up for The Cure for months, playing to hundreds of thousands of people. They carved themselves out an unclassifiable brand of noise that appealed on a fundamental level across the board, allowing them to conduct punk-rock stage-invasions at festivals like Dour, mould abrasive noise into unlikely anthems on a huge scale at mega- festivals like Summersonic, and create tents full of glitchy, angular dancing at Glade Festival with equal success.

Introducing: Houndmouth

After a SXSW that resulted in national coverage on NBC Rock CenterFuse News, and Rolling Stone, a US tour with Alabama Shakes as well as three sold-out headline London shows earlier this year, Houndmouth released their much-anticipated debut album, From the Hills Below the City, via Rough Trade.

The albums twelve songs are packed with tales of down-on-their-luck drug runners, casinos, riverboats, recession-era scraping, and more. All members of Houndmouth sing, “leading with individual character and harmonizing in saloon-choir empathy,” writes Rolling Stone’s David Fricke, and their songs have a loose-limbed swing, anchored by a sturdy rhythm and a cagey melodic sensibility.

Now Houndmouth are set to embark on a string of UK dates in September 2013, including Birmingham’s Hare & Hounds on Sun 8th.

Cloud Control unveil new single 'Scar'

Following previous single ‘Dojo Rising’, Australian four-piece Cloud Control have revealed a new track entitled ‘Scar’. This will be the second single to be taken from their forthcoming record, sophomore album Dream Cave due out in the UK on 16 September via Infectious Music.

Originally hailing from Australia’s Blue Mountains, but now residing in the UK, Cloud Control are applying last minute magic to the follow up to 2010’s Bliss Release (released to critical acclaim, including 4* reviews in QThe Times andThe Guardian). The album won the Australian Music Prize, the antipodean equivalent of the Mercury Prize, and the band spent countless hours in the backs of vans and tour buses notching up over four hundred gigs across the globe including support slots with Vampire WeekendWeezer and Arcade Fire.

Whereas their debut was ostensibly a home recording, for Dream Cave Cloud Control decamped to the Kent countryside with producer and mix engineer Barny Barnicott (Arctic MonkeysPlan BPeace & Franz Ferdinand) to capture something utterly unique – an addictive swirl that uniquely blurs together the psychedelic guitar pop and soaring West Coast harmonies of their debut with warm electronics, programmed loops and reverb-soaked percussion.

SKATERS to headline Hare & Hounds

After their triumphant show at The Rainbow in May, Birmingham Promoters are very excited to be welcoming SKATERS back to Birmingham, this time to the Hare & Hounds.

SKATERS formed in late 2011 after singer Michael Cummings and Noah Rubin (The Dead TreesAdam GreenLittle Joy) spent a year trading demos back and forth from Los Angeles to London with guitarist Joshua Hubbard(The PaddingtonsDirty Pretty Things).

The three met in the middle to record an EP in a Manhattan loft, and never left the city. The result is a smart, dynamic punk band drawing inspiration from obscure genres and cultures. And, a live band featuring a growing cast of young energetic musicians of the Boston and NYC music scenes.

“Skaters know just how to encapsulate that classic lo-fi garage pop sound that many can only hope to achieve.” – Indie Shuffle
“Bursts with sharp, well-defined riffs and smooth, charismatic vocals.” – Lost at E Minor

Sylvain Sylvain of New York Dolls to play Hare & Hounds

Sylvain Sylvain was one of the creative member’s of the truly trend setting inspirational band of the seventies, The New York Dolls. Their visual style influenced the sound and the look of many new wave and 1980s-era glam metal groups, and they were at pinnacle the local New York scene that later spawned The RamonesBlondieTelevision and Talking Heads.

The band was influenced by vintage rhythm and blues the early Rolling Stones, classic American girl group songs, and protopunk bands such as the MC5 and The Stooges, as well as glam rockers such as Marc Bolan. In synthesizing this wide variety of influences they created something which critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote “doesn’t really sound like anything that came before it. It’s hard rock with a self-conscious wit, a celebration of camp and kitsch that retains a menacing, malevolent edge.”

After splitting in 1975 Sylvain went onto record solo albums and write songs for David Johanson solo albums. Then in 2004 Morrissey asked them to play Meltdown Festival in London and the band reformed for more shows including the O2 Wireless Festival and Lounge on the Farm in the UK in 2008.
Now Sylvain Sylvain is going back out on the road with his version of the New York Dolls. He will be playing classic Dolls tunes as well as his own new material including the latest single ‘Leaving New York’.

Akron/Family to play Hare & Hounds 22nd July

It was a century ago when I first saw Akron/Family perform, in the tiny back room of a bar in Brooklyn that held perhaps 20 people. Cables and extension cords laced through their legs, they proffered a sort of delicate, improvisational experimentalism, laced with occasional rock grooves, but most extraordinarily, often punctuated with beautiful 4 part harmonies…Absolutely thrilling, stunning, and great fun, too.

Much time has passed, and we find them rocking (still rocking) but now in a skittering kaleidoscope. The shards of music styles and influences flung through the speakers from all directions, congealing for a second, then just as quickly dissolving into something new and unexpected. They’re amphetamine crazed jugglers of sound and texture, but there’s always those vocals, rooting the thing in a deep and satisfying place. A conflation of orchestrated Jazz, Prog Psych, R&B and devotional mantras.

“Organic and jubilant, it successfully weaves psych, world, rock, and folk traditions into something new and endlessly compelling.” – Pichfork
