Treetop Flyers to headline Hare & Hounds

With their quintessential vintage West Coast sound, it’s fitting that Treetop Flyers laid down their outstanding country soul debut in the canyons of Southern California. Though based in London, the British five-piece swapped urban England for the picturesque beaches and rolling hills of Malibu in order to record the classic sounding ‘The Mountain Moves’.

A record of hope, honesty and huge choruses, its universally reaching songs are strewn with sunshine-infused four-part harmonies, propelled by an irrefutable open-highway groove. Paying their dues to everyone from The Band and Neil Young by way of Little Feat and Fleetwood Mac, there are also gracious nods towards the more contemporary likes of My Morning JacketThe Coraland Jonathan Wilson wrapped up in these 11 time-travelling tracks.

When the band arrived back home, a summer of high-profile festival slots awaited them. They played under Van Morrison at Green Man Festival, and shared a stage with Bob Dylan for the second time at The Hop Farm, after opening up for him at London’s Feisin 2011.

Introducing: Seapony

Taking their cue from the indie pop bands of yore (particularly twee pop acts like The SoftiesTalulah Gosh, and The Field Mice),Seapony sound every bit as dreamy, soft, and sweet as their name implies.

Formed in 2010, when longtime couple Jen Weidl and Danny Rowland moved to Seattle, they teamed up with bassist Ian Brewer, Rowland’s childhood friend and former bandmate, and the band was born. The band’s debut full-length album, Go with Me, was released on Hardly Art in 2011, and in just over a year, Seapony went from buzzed-about Midwest transplants to reliable dream pop purveyors.

The band’s sophmore LP Falling was released in September 2012, and signals a band entering a new and more ambitious period in their career, with a sharper-than-ever live show and a fanbase that grows by the day. Falling sees Weidl and Rowland incorporating some of their live show’s palpable rock energy into Seapony’s patented sun-kissed sound. With guitars engaged in a delicate, complex pa-de-deux, and fuller, less-rigid percussion, Falling is a record of disarming grace.

“Proud torch bearers for both the fizzy pop sound of the post-C-86 generation and the noisy but hooky sound of the early-’90s American indie scene…. near-perfect indie pop in the here and now” – Allmusic

Duke Special to headline Hare & Hounds

Duke Special is an artist aptly named. Dynamic, musically ambitious & bracingly eccentric, with his inimitable style and lush musicality. Hailing from Belfast with a sound that is self-confessed “hobo-chic”, Duke Special – AKA the endlessly inventive Peter Wilson– is once heard, never forgotten. Blissfully at home in his own alluring genre of beautifully bruised romanticism, Duke Special inhabits a world unlike any other – a world filled with vaudeville-esque sensibility, sing-a-longs and addictive melodies .

Those who know him for the platinum album Songs From the Deep Forest, including the hit song ’Freewheel’ and other radio mainstays like ‘Sweet Sweet Kisses’ and ‘Last Night I Nearly Died’ may be surprised by the breadth of his work. Duke Special’s immense creative talents have seen him involved in projects as diverse as writing the theme tune for Sesame Tree, to writing the music for and appearing in Deborah Warner’s critically acclaimed 2009 production of Bertolt Brecht’s Mother Courage and Her Children at London’s National Theatre.

“Sumptuous, symphonic pop anthem, courtesy of dreadlocked Irishman who sounds like The Flaming Lips crossed with Rufus Wainwright” – Q Magazine

“…a beautifully crafted debut, which collects gravity-defying songs of extraordinary grace and guile…Freewheel, with heartbreaking falsetto flurries, is the song Neil Finn always wanted to write” –  **** UNCUT

DUKE SPECIAL PLAY HARE & HOUNDS BIRMINGHAM ON TUES 16TH APRIL 2013, WITH SUPPORT FROM SADPAW. TICKETS AVAILABLE HERE.
