Ending 2012 on a high note with the success of their singles ‘Toucan Surf’ and ‘Surround You’, accompanied by a flurry of accolades for their lush garage pop, young Birmingham four piece JAWS entered the year with four sold out shows across the UK with fellow B-towners Swim Deep and a packed headline show at London’s Old Blue Last.
Now comes a new single from the band entitled ‘Friend Like You’. Showcasing the rounding-out and maturation of their sound, ‘Friend Like You’ revels in shimmering guitars, beaconing synths and a simultaneously uplifting and poignantly bittersweet refrain – a glowing distilment of grungey pop through an open-air haze.
Along with b-side ‘Breeze’, the new single is also included in an accompanying bumper EP release titled Milkshake that rounds up the bands previous singles and is released 22nd April 2013 digitally and on limited vinyl.
With the new single and its accompanying ‘roll-up’ EP, JAWS present both an impressive summation of their output thus far and a firm indication of an even brighter year ahead.

Maps & Atlases have revealed a brand new video for latest single ‘Fever’. The clip is directed by M&A guitarist Erin Elders, and the track is taken from the band’s recent album ‘Beware and Be Grateful’.
Birmingham Promoters are teaming up with It’s Just Noise to bring the Chicago four-piece to the Hare & Hounds!
In a musical landscape pitted with pop stars and pigeonholes, Maps & Atlases defy easy categorization, choosing to walk their own incomparable path.
Latest album ‘Beware and Be Grateful’ builds upon the Chicago-based band’s acclaimed Barsuk Records debut, ‘Perch Patchwork’, melding their trademark experimentalism with a more direct – though no less beguiling – songcraft. The new album abounds with invention, spanning hymnal harmonies, percolating rhythms – all gloriously liquid and lyrical, channeling M&A’s maximalist creativity into a truly inviting brand of boundary-busting, asymmetrical pop.
Since their formation in 2004, Maps & Atlases have captured the indie imagination with polyrhythmic beats, elaborate melodies, and post-rock ingenuity. With its blend of avant garde audacity and pop craftsmanship, ‘Beware and Be Grateful’ stands firmly in the great art rock tradition, a model synthesis of novelty and tradition, of listen ability and invention. Maps & Atlases have crafted a collection of resplendently human music, its intricate dynamics wholly matched by ornate wells of deep emotion.
MAPS & ATLASES PLAY THE HARE & HOUNDS BIRMINGHAM ON THURS 28TH FEBRUARY 2013, WITH SUPPORT FROM FAREWELL J.R. & MOUNT FUJI. TICKETS AVAILABLE HERE.
