Tues 5th – HEDUCATION & FREESTYLE PRESENT: AKIL THE MC (JURASSIC 5) & LOUIS LOGIC – Akil is best known as one of the MCs from the legendary hip-hop group, Jurassic 5, known for their funky, old skool flavours and uplifting lyrical content. Having featured on all 4 Jurassic 5 LPs, Akil has gone on to work with a host of talented producers. Akil is also a producer, song writer, photographer, break dancer, and entrepreneur, and is credited with much of Jurassic 5′s success. His eagerly awaited debut LP, ‘Soundcheck 101′ is due for release later this year – get an exclusive preview of his new tracks live!

Last time we hosted Akil in Birmingham, we sold 400 tickets… if you were there, you won’t need much persuasion to return! There are only 250 tickets for this gig, so please be sure to buy in advance, to avoid disappointment.

The Catapult Club presents: 21st Anniversary & Henry’s Children Album Launch

A fantastic one off show to celebrate 21 years of Catapult Club gigs in Birmingham.

The first ever Catapult Club show took place at the Hare and Hounds on Monday 25 September 1989. As a fitting celebration we mark the exact anniversary in the same venue 21 years later with the wonderful Henry’s Children launching their new album “In Your Town”.

Soul Food Sunday!! The Soul Food Boys will be in at the crack of dawn roasting potatoes in rosemary and garlic, preparing glazes and rubs for our meats and working on mean gravy’s, spicy stuffed yorkshire puddings and prepping fresh veg. We’ll be joined by local muso Andrew Dubber who’ll be manning the wheels of steel from 1pm till 4pm playing some seriously nice jazz (think everything from bluenote through to spiritual stuff, jazz funk and good old fashioned dusty soul records)

Nu Century Arts presents: The Live Box – Ciyo Brown, Robert Mitchell & Jonathan Morley

Ciyo Brown, the internationally acclaimed guitarist, comes to the Hare and Hounds to perform with his World Music Acoustic Trio, featuring Colin McNeish on double bass and Lenny Edwards on percussion. Ciyo has worked with Ronnie Davis, Jean Toussant, Suggs, Carleen Anderson, Roachford, Steel Pulse and Andy Hamilton among others. He incorporates a large range of influences into his music including jazz, reggae, soul and latin.

Birmingham Promoters presents: The Wilderness Of Manitoba / Ben Calvert & Band / Finding Calcutta – Something special happens when the four members of the Wilderness of Manitoba sing together, whether it’s in the basement of the house on Delaware Avenue in Toronto, Canada where three of them live and where the band recorded their EP Hymns Of Love & Spirits or in the garage out back where they sometimes stage their own shows. The late 60s model is very influential on the recording and the sense of community within the band. They learned not to rely on electric instruments, but rather the strength of their voices and melodies…

Friendly Fire Sessions presents: Messenger Douglas & Alphamix Dub Band

Messenger Douglas is an acclaimed roots singer and producer and has toured the world with Overproof Soundsystem, from Germany to New Zealand, Croatia to the USA. His most recent singles such as Share With Me (alphamix), Perilous Time (Mighty Tree) or Kingstep (Elephant House) are played regularly by some of the tuffest roots sounds across the world, and established him as a a solid reference for UK Roots. This is the first time Messenger Douglas will be performing at the Hare and Hounds backed by his own Alphamix Dub Band for a show not to be missed.
