https://www.theticketsellers.co.uk/buy_tickets/events/?id=10013714

Jibbering proudly presents; a night of live dance floor orientated Hip-Hop with a Funk, Soul and Reggae underbelly!!!

ASM are one of Europe’s fastest emerging Hip Hop acts. They are rapidly making their mark on the scene through their original and boundary-pushing live shows, recently deemed “leaders of the new school” by DJ Vadim (BBE).

Their live showcase is rooted in a unique form of beat production by Fade, DJ Sativo and Lando. The three of them work together on stage with an Akai MPC, Roland SP-404, Micro Korg Keyboard, Flute, Melodica, Korg Kaos Pad, Theremin, a turntable and a scratch mixer to create some of the freshest Soul, Reggae and Funk infused Hip Hop killers around. The music they create forms the perfect backdrop for the talented lyricists, FP the Funky Poet and Green-T, to get busy and experiment with rhymes and back and forth flows in ways that are surely unique in the world of underground hip hop today.

ASM recently featured on the single ‘Positively Inclined’ from French producer Wax Tailor’s album ‘Hope & Sorrow’ which has already sold over 50,000 copies worldwide. Their music video for Positively Inclined was also been taken by MTV France and held a top 40 slot for 6 weeks in the French national airplay charts – a rare achievement for an underground conscious hip hop group. ASM’s debut album ‘Platypus Funk’ features  Dj Vadim (BBE Music), Sadat X (Brand Nubian) Wax Tailor (Decon), Wildchild (Stones Throw), Kid Kanevil (First Word) and Bonobo (Ninja tune).

If you’re a fan of Jurassic 5, Ugly Duckling, People Under The Stairs, those type of cats, then you’ll love this positive music!!!

In support we are overjoyed to welcome back Boy Com. This 7 piece Kick-Ass-Party-Hip-Hop collective, rocked the house on their last appearance at the Hare, in support of The Black Seeds.

Their aim is to make you groove till the end of the night and even after you’ve left the venue! From the cheeky to the downright dirty their sound is funked up, reggae tinged party band – you have to catch their rendition of the Jungle Book theme tune!

Boy Com’s debut single ‘Who Needs ‘Em Anyway?’ (Naim Records) is great. The phatest beats, the smoothest basslines and the most roaring brass section you’ve ever heard! There ain’t a chance in hell you won’t love them!

“One of my favourite bands at the moment… ‘Who Needs ‘Em Anyway?’  is a definite classic!” -The Guardian

The fun doesn’t stop there though! In support we have one of the finest hip-hop DJs and connoisseurs around in DJ Cro, alongside. Mister Sam Redmore of the now legendary Freestyle Fridays at the Bull’s Head, and the shake ‘em up throw em’ down sounds of Tangawizi…

Get your tickets and get there early! Doors at 7.30pm – early finish as it’s a school night !!!

Smoove & Turrell

November 4th, 2010  |  Published in Listings

DJ/Producer Smoove and vocalist John Turrell are earning plaudits everywhere including Jonathan Ross, BBC Radio 2′s Janice Long, BBC Radio 6 Music’s Craig Charles (who wrote the liner notes for their debut album) and BBC Radio 2’s Radcliffe and Maconie!

They are regularly playing gigs around the UK and Europe and the summer of 2010 saw them play Glastonbury, The Big Chill, Kendal Calling and many other festivals. Tonight the pair headline with a full DJ set (including live vocals) to showcase their northern soul influenced funk and soul.

Sadly, due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to postpone the Smoove & Turrell gig in October but as promised, we have rearranged the show and the new date is SATURDAY 22ND JANUARY 2011…

SMOOVE & TURRELL BIOG
———————————
Having released their first album “Antique Soul” on Jalapeno Records, the lads have gone from strength to strength both on the UK scene and across Europe. Previous to their album being snapped up by Jalapeno, they have released a limited 7” single “I Can’t Give You Up” on German label “Club Tikka”. The single soon found itself in a bidding frenzy on Ebay with copies reaching a startling £166! Surely not for a new 7” I hear you cry…

Craig Charles (BBC 6 Funk & Soul Show) put pen to paper to write the sleeve notes for the album “Antique Soul” and also invited the whole seven piece band down to Manchester to perform a live session on his Radio show. It doesn’t stop there! The boys have also been called in for a live set on The Janice Long Show (BBC Radio 2) and on the legendary Clive Anderson’s “Loose Ends Show” (BBC Radio 4). To top it all off the boys also won single of the week on Marc Radcliffe’s BBC 2 Show…

Smoove and Turrell have released some outstanding singles, working with some of the best remix artists in the country and beyond…

• “I Can’t Give You Up” includes club remixes from A Skillz and Lack of Afro.
• “You Don’t Know” was smashed for the dance floor with remixes from Kraak and Smaak and Featurecast.
• “Don’t Go” was a limited 7” of the 80s classic. Smoove and Turrell style…some serious funk.

John Turrell has recently found him self collaborating with other high profile artists like Ashley Beadle, Omar, Kraak and Smaak and is also the male lead vocalist in the “Craig Charles Fantasy Funk Band”. Things are looking extremely good for Smoove & Turrell and High Fidelity are bringing them to the Hare & Hounds in Kings Heath, Birmingham for one night only!

THE EVENT
————–
Early Bird tickets are available until December 1st priced at just £8.00 (tickets bought online are subject to a 10% booking fee).  Advance tickets will then be on sale priced at £10.00. Tickets may also be available on the door but will be more expensive.

Doors will open at 9.00pm (though you can enjoy a drink downstairs in the pub before that) and our support acts will entertain you until Smooth & Turrell take to the stage for a set that will last for over two hours!

Soul Food Sundays w/ Goodnight Lenin DJ Set

November 3rd, 2010  |  Published in Listings

First up…Thanks to everyone who’s made the Soul Food Sundays such a resounding success so far…

Big props to our resident DJ Andrew Dubber who’s combination of spiritual jazz, jazz funk, blue note, reggae and beyond has been an absolute winner.

The vibe has been unreal…Roasts ‘n’ Records in the intimacy of the back bar is a formula we don’t want to mess with, infact we want to develop the idea further and will over the next …6 months be inviting different acts, djs and promoters to help us make this the ultimate Sunday wind down in Brum!

To kick off this series we’re buzzing to be welcoming our favourite alt folk act in Birmingham ‘Goodnight Lenin’ to spin some off kilter folk, blues and anything else that takes their fancy from 1pm.

The band then head straight upstairs for an acoustic set in our very own Soul Food Kitchen at about 5.30…We’ve got space for about 15 people and will be announcing very shortly how to win a ticket!

Here’s what to expect…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVsGmTjdlek

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1ScG4OHgRM

Our menu changes every Sunday but you can expect Cajun Beef, Rosemary and garlic stuffed Lamb, Coca Cola Ham, Roasted Pumpkin, Vegetarian Pies and much more…

See you all soon

Soul Food Project x

Roasts ‘n’ Records

September 29th, 2010  |  Published in Listings

Every Sunday Soul Food Project opens the  back bar for an exclusive afternoon of Cajun Roasts and Jazz.

The Soul Food Boys will be in at the crack of dawn roasting potatoes in rosemary and garlic, preparing glazes and rubs for our meats and working on mean gravy’s, spicy stuffed yorkshire puddings and prepping fresh veg.

We’ll be joined by local muso Andrew Dubber who’ll be manning the wheels of steel from 1pm till 4pm playing some seriously nice jazz (think everything from bluenote through to spiritual stuff, jazz funk and good old fashioned dusty soul records)

Here’s a couple of mixes Andrew put together to give you an idea what to expect from his sets….

http://www.andrewdubber.com/2010/08/soul-food-for-your-ears/

http://www.andrewdubber.com/2010/09/soul-food-sunday-vol-2/

The roast changes weekly, but you can expect the likes of Cajun beef, honey roasted ham, maple glazed pork and stuffed butternut squash (Kids options / vegetarian options also available)….Here’s a review from the much respected and ace LOAF blog…

‘’So the beef…. The cajun rub on the joint, which was served deliciously pink as promised, really came through on the outer edges of the beef, and permeated the gravy – it wasn’t overly spicy, but just enough to let you know it wasn’t a run-of-the-mill joint. I said at the time it was one of the best roasts I’ve had in Birmingham, and I still remember it fondly a week later’’ LOAF ONLINE (www.loafonline.co.uk)

For your comfort we’ll only be serving roasts in the back bar and limiting numbers to begin with, so please phone ahead or pre book here…info@soulfoodproject.co.uk
