Soulvation Returns to the H&H This Friday

Soulvation return to the Hare & Hounds this Friday 3rd July for their latest ‘Out On The Floor Tonight’ Northern Soul session.

This time around is more than a bit special, as the night celebrates the 41st Anniversary (yes really!) of ‘the greatest little Soul club in the land’, The Catacombs in Temple Street, Wolverhampton.

‘The Cats’ began Rare Soul sessions way back in 1968, before the term ‘Northern Soul’ had been thought of, and proudly carried the banner for underground Soul up till July 1974. The Soulvation session will feature 3 DJ’s who played at The Catacombs, Graham Warr, Bill Baker and Neil Rushton plus Clive Jones, who promotes the superb All-Dayers at The Chateu Impney in Droitwich.

Neil comments: ‘Bill and myself loved the place and managed to get ourselves on the DJ rosta at The Catacombs for the last 9 months or so before it closed. It was small, sweatyy and with an incredible atmopshere, there was literally sweat running down the walls. People came from all over the country to The Cats because they knew they would hear records no other club had got. All-Nighters like The Torch in Tunstall and Wigan Casino were much larger venues, buit they did not have the records played at The Catacombs. It was an education and a privilege to play to that discerning crowd..Getting Graham Warr to come out of DJ retirement and play on July 3 at the Hare and Hounds is a real coup. Graham was one of the first people to go over to America on record finding trips and came up with the very first copies of many recoords, which have gone on to become become Northern Soul classics. In 1972 he was finding records at 1p each which are now worth £500. It was his discoveries which made The Catacombs so unique’

Graham is also legendary amongst black music fans in Birmingham for his record stall in the 1970’s in the Oasis market, and for DJ’ing at the innovative Jazz/Funk nights at Chaplins in Broad Stret and has since forged a career in the fashion industry..

It all kicks off at 8pm with advance tickets costing just £5 each, with a limited amount of 2 for £8 tickets also up for grabs. Find both here.
