They reformed in 2009 to much ado, and reunion album ‘Fluorescent Black’ is widely seen as their finest and most relevant album to date. “A fetching contradiction. Their beats are opuses of weird, unpredictable energy, but as rappers they’re as fiercely focussed as the next guy. Only the next guy is rapping about normal things.”

Stitches and Hos presents: Stitches and Hos – Stitches and Hos are a motley crew of enthusiasts for all things knitted, crocheted and stitched. We can be found creating soft chaos and dropping stitches on the last Tuesday of every month from 7.30pm onwards in the back bar. Everyone welcome – you don’t even have to be good!

Leftfoot presents: Daddy G (Massive Attack) & Alternative Dubstep Orchestra – one of the founding members of group Massive Attack, which is considered to be the first and definitive group in the trip-hop genre. Massive Attack (Angel, Teardrop, Protection) were among the most innovative and influential groups of their generation; their hypnotic sound, a darkly sensual and cinematic fusion of hip-hop rhythms, soulful melodies, dub grooves, and choice samples.

Inqlab presents: INQLAB against the cuts.

Birmingham collective Inqlab are hosting a DJ fundraiser at the Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath on Friday 22 July to raise money for a local charity, which provides legal support for asylum seekers. This marginalised group is suffering even further as a result of the Coalition Government’s cuts.

Interview with DJ Lone via The Quietus. Lone will be playing at The Hare & Hounds this Friday for clubnight dollop – 7th Birthday Series…

Producer Lone, aka Matt Cutler, talks to Lev Harris about his latest EP Echolocations, explains why he loves The Shining and how he refuses to be pigeonholed…

Rarely does the name of the electronic act define the person who has chosen it as succinctly and effectively as is the case with Lone, aka Matt Cutler. The Nottingham-based producer has been quietly making his way into the mainstream of UK dance music with the release of numerous EPs and three full-length albums Everything Is Changing Colour, Lemurian and Ecstasy and Friends. His sound is ever-changing with gleeful abandon – see tracks like ‘Karen Loves Kate’. Lone, as his name suggests, refuses to stroll amiably into the confines of genre.

Coming off the back of glowing praise from fellow artists ranging from James Holden to Kode9, Lone’s latest EP, Echolocations, is arguably the most fully realised of his releases to date. Through integrating a more Detroit techno groove into his characteristically reflective and whimsical melodies, he has created an intelligent and absorbing batch of songs that more than prove that he is capable of holding down his place at the forefront of British electronic music Not bad for someone whose roots rather modestly began in the bedroom as a child producer, dabbling in hip-hop, rave, hardcore and techno.
