Wednesday
~ Birmingham Promoters presents: The Depreciation Guild / Jodie & The Jet Plane
Featuring members of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and Tropic of Nelson, The Depreciation Guild is a fuzzed-out, reverb drenched pop/electronic group. Backed solely by a Nintendo Entertainment System, the band blankets their sound with the crushing blows of its 8-Bit 2A03 sound chip. Drawing inspiration from classic dream-pop bands such as Pale Saints, and Cocteau Twins, as well as 80’s synth-pop masters such as Bill Nelson, Gangway, Scritti Politti and YMO, The Depreciation Guild have artfully cultivated a unique sound that strikes a balance between progressive and retro-chic.
~ Back Bar quiz – Lots of prizes to be won!
Thursday
~ mlm presents: Electric Eel Shock + Birthrite – The best hard rock and roll band to come out of Japan ever, Electric Eel Shock! plus support from Local Black Country Steampunk band, Birthrite. Mixing dark fuzzy stoner rock riffs with classic rock sensibilities and addictive song-writing hooks, EES occupy the gaping void somewhere between Queens Of The Stoneage, AC/DC and Black Sabbath
Friday
~ The Peek A Boo Club presents: Burlesque Night – An evening of sparkles, tease, feathers and tassels!! Spend an evening being entertained by fabulous Burlesque dancers from around the country, supported by live music from the Magnificatz and DJ’s. All profits will go to supporting the New Heart Unit at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital. For more information on the challenge visit www.justgiving.com/Pam-Hodgetts
Saturday
~ Moseley Folk presents: Moseley Folk Festival Official After Party
Taking place just a mile away from the Hare & Hounds in Moseley Park, headline performances will be provided by Donovan, The Divine Comedy and The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britian. Fyfe Dangerfield, The Low Anthem, Lunasa, The Unthanks, Turin Brakes and many more are also appearing. Everything at the festival falls silent at 10.30pm, but that doesn’t mean you need to go to bed. People will be making the short trip to the Hare for what can best be described as a 21st century barn dance with the raucous Cut a Shine troupe. Make sure you bring your dancing shoes!
Sunday
~ Birmingham Promoters presents: Black Mountain / Wolf People – An amalgamation of the Classic Rock / Blues Rock of Neil Young, Buffalo Springfield, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath with some psychedelic tendencies. Support comes from Black Mountain’s labelmates WOLF PEOPLE – the first British band to sign to Jagjaguwar, inspired by the rural isolation of West Wales to conjure shifting rhythms, entrancing folksong and smoke-fogged, riff-stoked jams
