Drawing inspiration from classic dream-pop bands such as Pale Saints, and Cocteau Twins, as well as 80’s synth-pop masters such as Bill Nelson, Gangway, Scritti Politti and YMO, The Depreciation Guild have artfully cultivated a unique sound that strikes a balance between progressive and retro-chic.

Sunday roasts are a big deal to us…..Infact they’re our favourite day to eat, so to say we take them serious is an understatement. From Sunday September 26th we’ll be opening the newly refurbed back bar at The Hare and Hounds and welcoming Local jazz legend Andrew Dubber to curate the soundsystem who’ll be digging through his collection for 4 hours of spiritual jazz, deep funk, world and whatever else takes his fancy….Here’s a link to a special mix Andrew did for our Soul Food Sundays…

Dub ‘n’ Grub

Our roasts have a suitably cajun twist, so you can expect the likes of Cajun rubbed beef, honey glazed hams, maple roasted pork, stuffed butternut squash and gumbo’s.

One Course – £8 / Two Courses – £10

Served 1pm – 5pm

The vibe will be suitably chilled and we recommend pre booking a table as we have been known to fill very quickly (All pre booked tables will receive a weekend paper of their choice on the table). ‘’So the beef…. The cajun rub on the joint, which was served deliciously pink as promised, really came through on the outer edges of the beef, and permeated the gravy – it wasn’t overly spicy, but just enough to let you know it wasn’t a run-of-the-mill joint. I said at the time it was one of the best roasts I’ve had in Birmingham, and I still remember it fondly a week later’’ LOAF ONLINE (www.loafonline.co.uk)
Other weekly events worth mention….   Every Tuesday – Jambalaya Tuesdays – Buy one get one free Jambalaya’s all day and night!!

Monday & Wednesday

~ Back Bar quizzes – Lots of prizes to be won!

Wednesday

~ Leftfoot, B’ham Promoters & This Is Tmrw presents: The Phenomenal Handclap Band –  have crafted a sound that is equal parts anthemic, dancefloor-oriented and orchestral, borrowing elements from progressive rock, disco, electro, and psychedelia. Live, it pulses with a savage rhythm section that provides the ultimate foil for cascading guitars and electrified washes of organ and synthesizers. Their delirious sermonizing whips crowds into a charismatic frenzy. Needless to say, their live shows are more akin to a spiritual church revival than an actual rock show

~ World Unlimited, B’ham Promoters & The Drum presents: Raghu Dixit / Chris Tye & Jayne Powell / Finding Calcutta – fast become a shining beacon in the burgeoning Indian independent music scene. Raghu’s debut album released 2008, became India’s highest selling non-film music release last year. With a towering voice fronting traditional Indian folk music, subtly infused with elements of Western Rock, Arabic, Latino and Reggae textures and rhythms. His lyrics are intense, direct and speak about everyday themes, emotions and experiences making his songs truly universal

Thursday

~ Capsule presents: Silver Apples / Pram – An electronic/psychedelic duo formed in 1967 in New York City, reformed in the 90s. Contrasting the flowery psychedelic rock music of the late 60s they were one of the first groups to employ electronic music techniques extensively within a rock idiom, and their minimalistic style, with its pulsing, driving beat and frequently discordant modality, anticipated not only the experimental electronic music and krautrock of the 1970’s, but underground dance music and indie rock of the 1990s as well.

Friday

~ The Lunar Society presents: Goodnight Lenin’s Official Debut Single Launch – Celebrating the release of their debut single ‘Crook in the Creek’ on local label Static Caravan, Moseley Folk Festival’s Lunar Society presents a night with Goodnight Lenin. They’ve only been at it a year or so but Goodnight Lenin caught the eye of the Moseley Folk team back in December after releasing a YouTube video of a simple acoustic performance in which they sat perched on the counter tops of their kitchen. Support comes from The Young Runaways, Boat To Row & Jodi Ann Bickley

Saturday

~ Sumo presents: Reggae & Bass – Aries – UK based Drum & Bass, Jungle and Dubstep DJ/Producer. He has been a part of bass culture music since 1990 and hasn’t looked back since. His main influences are Roots and Dub Reggae which will come as no surprise if you listen to his music or have heard him play. His music is unique and offers soul and depth that not only makes people think and listen but holds its weight and has maximum impact on the dance floor.

Saturday & Sunday

~ Little Chill – 2 day event The ‘Little Chill’ means just that. A place to come with family and friends, and enjoy the various music types, supplied by some of the finest clubbing brands the city has to offer, on offer throughout the weekend with no moody vibes, moody people, or moody music. Featuring some of the finest DJ’s from what we consider to be some of the best home grown & independent club brands that Birmingham has to offer over three zones. Entertainment wise, there will be different styles of music within the various zones which means something to please everybody

Sunday

~ Hilarious Comedy presents: The XXXX Comedy Cabaret

We are so pleased to have secured Dan to headline tonight’s show…  Once described as “Walsall’s Frank Skinner”, he has gained praise from the likes of Donna McPhail, Rob Rouse and Robin Ince and is quite honestly, one of the funniest comics we know! The resident compere for the club is BRMB presenter and local lad, JAMES COOK who will be funny at the start, the end and in between the acts. He’ll also tell you when the breaks are… Confirmed acts that James will be introducing at tonight’s show include… Ben Briggs, Mick Hibbered, Aaron Telling, And brilliant headline act… Dan Smith

~ Oya batucada presents “Take me to Brazil!”- samba percussion workshop, led by Mestre John Richards, informal learning styles, all welcome, instruments provided, 12.15 til 3 pm!!!
