The Road to Standon provides an opportunity for young and aspiring bands to stake a claim for a main stage spot at Standon Calling this summer has become known as being streaks ahead of industry talent spotters, having booked the likes of Florence and the Machine and Friendly Fires before they became household names, and now offers the chance for new and unsigned acts to join the haunts of stars who launched their careers in the merry fields of Standon. If you know the bands and their music, know the awesome nights Standon put on, follow the legend that is pre-festival warm up or simply want to spend your evening listening to the sounds of next year then make sure you head down and see what’s on offer!

~ Miss Perry & Birmingham Promoters presents: Youves / Brontide / Rolo Tomassi DJ set

YOUVES are a punk quintet from Nuneaton. As if spitting in the face of their parochial backwater origins, their sound is a wide ranging spastic hybrid of post-punk, indie and hardcore spirit, alive with the fearless folly of youth. Lean, aggressive and kinetic, they’re a five-headed beast with a razor sharp sonic focus and steel eyed vision. We are also very pleased to have the guys from Rolo Tomassi spinning some tunes in-between bands! So make sure you get down early for the party!!

Friday

The minute Grammy award-winning Dobet Gnahoré steps onto the stage, it is obvious she is something special, she exudes an inner strength and commanding presence that draws you in, even before she opens her mouth. Dobet uses traditional music and explores many other African genres to create a sound all of her own. She performs in seven African languages as well as French, defining her approach as “defiantly diverse, musically and linguistically”. Dobet is a vivacious bundle of energy, blessed with a powerful voice and infectious charisma. Make sure you see her on her first ever UK tour. Come, enjoy and be captivated by her passion!

~ The Sugarfoot Stomp presents: Sugarfoot Stomp Boys Vs Girls

It’s time for the mouth-guards to go in, the boxing gloves to go on and the shoulder massages to commence! As she hit her teens the sound of Keane’s ‘Bedshaped’ on the radio, (literally) spun her around to a world of indie and later rock music. A wide range of artists have since inspired her songs and musical style-such as Joni Mitchell, The Police and John Mayer. De’Borah’s songs are filled with sincerity, warmth and a vulnerability that allows her to remarkably inspire and engage with an audience.
