Airship – “Manchester’s best-kept secret.”
Like M83, they’re taking the hidden melancholia of the ’80s with shivering Morten Harket style vocals…and a collection of catchy hooks mix beautifully with the guitar work reminiscent of Modest Mouse and the Pixies.
With a Mercury Rev tinged rock sound (and shades of really early Idlewild too) expect anthemic choruses, and a fair degree of thrashing about.
Rising from the debris of battered vinyl, crumpled cds and broken tapes, The Vehicles mash together subtle keyboard snyths, and catchy guitar driven hooks, into something loud, catchy and a little edgy
With floor-stomping, dancing inducing tracks such as ‘Bright Young Things’ and ‘Kobayashi’ to the anthemic sing-a-long vibes of ‘Trouble in Paradise’ and ‘I Don’t Want to Know, they provide diverse set, and live performances of the highest order.
With some high profile support slots for the likes of The Virgins The Enemy, Manchester Orchestra, Tokyo Police Club, The Spinto Band and The Twang already under their belts, their pedigree as one of the best unsigned acts around is assured.
Fresh on the scene, singer-songwriter Philly G is steadily gaining quite a following in Birmingham. Supported by two outstanding musicians Anton Pankhania (Drums) and brother, Rob Gibbs (Bass Guitar) he plays quirky, alternative songs fusing indie-alternative styles with soul and reggae. Live shows are filled with atmosphere and new tracks and covers are always thrown in the mix
