First of all apologies for any last minute cancelations of some of last week’s gigs, unfortunately Mother Nature decided to let one go and caused disruption to anyone travelling by air, which you all probably know already … unless you’ve been living in a cave for 2 weeks!
Luckily the smoke has now cleared. THANK.GOD! Because this week is Jam Packed full of glorious events for you lovely people to come to!!

Monday
- World Unlimited presents: Lauren Pritchard + supports Mac (Kings of Spain) & Tom Peel
Lauren Pritchard, a new artist with a remarkable voice and a rare song-writing talent to match. The London-based singer is all about the big-voiced blues. And it is a big voice, make no mistake!!
- Back Bar quiz – a nice relaxing quiz to start your week off after such a crazy bank holiday weekend!
Tuesday
- Capsule presents: Three Trapped Tigers + Health & Efficiency
Three Trapped Tigers are a trio from the UK who make some rather noisy, electronic instrumentals. Check out the proggy, time-shifting and head over to their MySpace to hear a few more numerical tracks!
World Unlimited presents: Megson
- SONGLINES magazine gave the new album a 4-star review and the INDEPENDENT has listed Megson in their 5 GIGS TO SEE section on no less than 3 occasions. ”Megson are amongst the most exciting trailblazers of British Contemporary Folk!” They have again been nominated as Best Duo in the 2010 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and are due to release a new album!
- Stitches and hos presents: April 2010
Another edition of our little knitting hootenanny, Come help us finish the knitted soft sculpture sign for Created in Birmingham pop up shop. Sounds to stitch to provided by Concrete Famine and MC Cheryl Jones, Wool and needles provided. All are welcome – you don’t even have to be good
Wednesday
- Birmingham Promoters presents: Rose Elinor Dougall / Jodie & The Jet Plane
Following her departure from The Pipettes , Rose has quietly been recasting herself as a psychedelic-folk chanteuse par-excel lance. She has demonstrated a breadth of inspiration, from the timeless, melancholy of Sandy Denny, through the leftfield melodicism of Smiths-era Morrissey to the primitive-futurism of Broadcast. Message back for cheeky £5 list!!
- Birmingham Promoters & Bigger Than Barry presents: Beardyman – Sold Out

- Miss Perry & Birmingham Promoters presents: Darwin Deez + Goodnight Lenin
Writes, records, produces and arranges using a 4-string electric guitar in his own invented, secret tuning. Current live set features his original songs, harsh electronic noise, and bouts of synchronized dancing. With Support from one of Birmingham’s best live bands – Goodnight Lenin – this night is NOT to be missed!!!
Friday
- Goodie Bag/Schizodelic Sound presents: 3 The Magic Number
Dj Shep Dog (Nice Up) Dj Mikee Lazy (The Goodie Bag) Dj Guy Carlos (Schizodelic Sound) Whilst everyone and his dog are chasing their tales of the most current or ‘happening’ musical movement, the NICE UP! music ethic is simple – “righteous party vibes”, putting out some of the best mash-up party anthems of the last few years. A guaranteed night of party rockin’ bombs!
- HABIT presents: A Night at the Local 002 – Phil Weeks
DJ/producer Phil Weeks is a house music purist. His mixing is old school Chicago with a nu-school French flare going from the deepest house to the techiest. He prefers vinyl, likes his mixes dirty, and knows how to rock a crowd with a heavy hitting bass line!

- Leftfoot and Arts Deville presents: Overproof Sound System-Leftfoot 10th Anniversary Special
Overproof will be launching their new single at this special event, which will be streamed live on Rhubarb Radio for international fans, complete with interviews from the band, Dj’s and crowd, as we celebrate this globally acclaimed group’s homecoming gig, following their successes in Australia and New Zealand, where they toured alongside Fat Freddy’s Drop!

- Birmingham Promoters presents: Paul Curreri / Don’t Move!
Internationally acclaimed as a songwriter, guitarist, and producer, California finds Curreri back in his Virginia studio, again handling all the instruments himself, as he did on his critically heralded previous effort, 2007’s The Velvet Rut (“A riveting trip. His best yet.” – Uncut “These songs sparkle like stars on a cold night. 5 STARS” – MOJO).
- Freestyle presents: Freestyle Bank Holiday Special
Spring is here and Freestyle celebrates by holding a free bank holiday special! Freestyle and Leftfoot resident Sam Redmore will be stepping up to the decks for a six-hour extravaganza of funk, soul, hip hop, house, disco, rock, latin, afro and reggae, as well everything in between.
