This Week!

The Hare & Hounds just keeps getting better and better!! All those who have made down to our events recently will have hopefully experienced some amazing live music and DJ sets, new talent as well as a few classics… We still got much much more to come this year… And its still ONLY February!!  Keep reading to see what’s on this week…

Monday

- World Unlimited presents: Paper Aeroplanes & Georgia Ruth Williams -

A double bill of two of two acts who will be attracting great attention over the next year, Paper Aeroplanes are a boy and a girl hailing from the rainiest extremes of Wales, this contemporary-folk duo puppeteer the emotions of audiences with their wistful musical tales…

- Stitches and hos – another edition of our monthy knitting hootenanny, sounds to stitch to provided by Dave Boring and his wife, all are welcome  –  you don’t even have to be good…

Wednesday

- Birmingham Promoters presents: Black Market Empire / Danny Connors & The Ladders / New Street Adventure – ex frontman of The On Offs, is back with a new solo project with his band The Ladders. His new four-piece outfit is perhaps his best move to date. Motown rhythms, melodies and arrangements that recall The Style Council and early solo Paul Weller and a commitment to the sounds and message of funky soul, personified by Curtis Mayfield, have brought much reward (Modculture).

- Birmingham Promoters presents: Malpas / Senadee – Simultaneously soaring and delicate, Senadee’s songs are defined by honesty. That coupled with a melodic craftsmanship that defies his background, he is able to engineer emotion through his words and themes in a way that is the envy of even the most seasoned songwriter. Local band and headliners Malpas are a band not to missed!

Access to Music – live music showcase for access to music students. A chance for the students to show off their talents in a live music venue. Come and show your support for the young and talented of Birmingham maybe pick some new favourite acts!

- Birmingham Jazz presents: Nils Petter Molvaer –

A luminary in jazz electronica, Nils Petter-Molvaer has been releasing music under his own name since 1997. As a composer and trumpet player his style draws from a wide palette including jazz, ambient and house as well as hip-hop, rock and pop music…

- The Garden Festival presents: A Garden Get Together with Crazy P & The Revenge!!

A double whammy in Birmingham, with Crazy P Soundsystem, Bootsy and Adam Regan taking in the Hare and Hounds. With The Revenge also added to the bill expect a night of re edits and collaborations!!  http://www.myspace.com/crazypmusic

Saturday

- Jazzifunk presents: Bruce Q from Liquid Fusion Music – JAZZIFUNK are back again for the monthly residency. Your DJ for the night will be Bruce Q from (Liquid Fusion Music / Jazzifunk) playing a 5 hour continuous set of Jazz, Funk, Soul, Broken Beat and Boogie. Arrive early for this on folks!!

- THC / Resistor presents: THC (The Head Club)

From OSMOSIS we’re pleased to invite local hero DK ROON. After several years of techno parties at rootys, and all around the midlands including House of God, ROON has acquired a great fanbase of friends. His slamming sets have seen him play for dozens of sound systems and techno nights.

Other quality guests include … Richard Turner, responsible for the famed Utility Plastics label, with support from local heros/terrorists Dj Skirt and Subcitizen … It’s a guaranteed belter!!!

- Birmingham Promoters presents: The Seal Cub Clubbing Club / The Skyline / Mr Cricket – a five-piece post-punk band from The Wirral. Lyrics covering wildly different subjects, Thom Yorke like mutterings, repetitive instrumental hooks, unconventionally catchy choruses, and melodies, their music is unlike other Merseyside bands The Coral and The Zutons. They are often compared to the likes of The Fall and Radiohead….The S.C.C.C. combine sonic force and innovation with a knack for surreal pop… another show not to be missed!!

-Nu Century Arts presents: Live Box with David Grey – The Greyish Quartet was formed in Birmingham during early 2008. Their debut album, “Hummingbird Hill”, features jazz, hip-hop and improvised music, recorded at Birmingham Conservatoire, as well as two live tracks recorded at The Yardbird Jazz Club. GQ play original music with influences from hip-hop, electronica, and classical music as well as jazz…

Martial arts tip this month, so look out for punches, grabs and kicks to accompany all the phat beats.To keep you moving we welcome back DJ Smokedog. Mat Horne’s Clubnight comes to the Hare!

Mat Horne may be better known as an actor in Gavin & Stacey, Catherine Tate Show etc etc, but he also  promotes his Sessions clubnight at The Queen of Hoxton in London.

We’re delighted to be hosting his first ever Sessions party in Birmingham on Sat 13th March (in conjunction with the ground-breaking Chicks Dig Jerks collective).
