Dan Smith / Little Palm / Nathan Bennett
His songs are symphonic yet understated, frenzied yet measured, complex yet played with ease, Dan Smith is not only an excellent songwriter and a thoughtfully explosive live performer – he is an outstanding addition to Future Music’s alternative scene. Delivering such poetic and provocative music at such an early stage in his career, he will provide you a welcome reminder as to ‘what it’s all about.’
Piano with singing and layering up beats and harmonies and percussion and kazoos and melodicas and strings and stuff….
Think the erratic stylings of Bohemian Rhapsody mixed with the soul of a Jeff Buckley record, and then throw in some of the excitement of Regina Spektor or Kate Bush. Think about it. That’s right; you’re getting the idea now.
Main support comes from Birmingham’s “best kept musical secret” singer songwriter Little Palm who has been gracing us with her quirky piano licks and haunting melodies and lyrics at live gigs for almost two years now. From intimate live acoustic performances in city pubs to energetic, powerful shows in front of hundreds, supporting the likes of Jack Penate at the Coventry Kasbah, and Natty at Bham’s Glee Club.
Little Palm offers a musical treat for any kind of audience. At the tender age of 18, Anna’s still evolving musically but has a unique vocal style and is awesome on the piano keys!
Opening act of the evening is Birmingham based singer-songwriter Nathan Bennett. He creates songs often compared vocally to the likes of John Lennon/The Beatles with memorable haunting melodies.
Nathan recently toured with Midge Ure as well as supports to John Power (Cast), Edwina Hayes along with Captain, The Feeling, Wheatus and Air Traffic with his side project Beneva. On the side of all this, Nathan works as a session musician playing keyboards for acts such as The Wildhearts and Anastacia.
