The Northwestern / Liner / The Traps
The Northwestern are the band spawned from the ashes of Hope Of The States.
After their short and slightly problematic career, they come back with a new and more relaxed project (and in their words: more honest). They have left behind the majority of their post-rock approximations, now focussed more on Pop sounds, but retaining the spark that fans of the previous band loved, like Sam’s voice and the way that he can compose beautiful, emotional lyrics.
The line up consists of:
Sam Herilhy-Guitar/Vocals (Hope Of The States/Thee Dust Rackets/Troubles)
Simon Jones-Drums (Hope Of The States/Thee Dust Rackets/Troubles)
Francesco Menegat-Bass
Jonny Winter-Guitar (The Open)
Ian McCullagh-Guitar
Their first full tour is in May/June 2009 with a release date for their debut single, the AA side “Telephones”/”All The Ones” was released through Friends Vs. Records on 15th June 2009 on 7” vinyl. The single is also available from iTunes. A Demo version of their song ‘fire’ is available through MusicGlue. A link is provided on their official MySpace page.
BBC’s Radio 1 calls LINER, “…Simply one of the best bands around today…”. The band’s contagious songs have brought the band critical acclaim and played a significant role in drawing attention to the boiling music scene in their hometown of Birmingham, UK.
Characterized by the British music bible NME as “Charismatic”, the band excels live, with a rhythm section as heavy and formidable as early-day The Who, and the cocksure swagger and soul of singer and songwriter, Alex Callaghan.
THE TRAPS formed in 2008 when band members Jamie Berry (vocals/guitar), Nick Berry (vocals/bass), James Minhas (lead guitar) and Dan Webb (drums) broke free of the small town backwaters where they first met to set about crafting music inspired by the bands and artists they loved. Drawing inspiration from influences ranging from the street smart urban cool of The Ramones and The Clash, to the perfect pop of The Beach Boys, an ambitious approach to songwriting and recording is an integral part of the band’s focus. This has provided the platform from which they have built a widespread, ever-growing fanbase including household names from the world of popular music, Oasis legend Noel Gallagher and Ian Brown.
