Nine Black Alps/Sucioperro/Black Market empire
Nine Black Alps are a rock band based in Manchester. Since their inception in 2003 they have developed a reputation for their loud and aggressive yet melodic music that echoes the sounds of American alternative rock bands such as Nirvana, Pixies and Dinosaur Jr.
They are renowned for their energetic and anarchic live shows which have taken them across Northern Europe, North America and Japan playing with bands such as Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Weezer and Biffy Clyro.
Nine Black Alps were signed to Island Records who released the albums ‘Everything Is’ (2005) and ‘Love/Hate’ (2007) and also an EP of B-sides called ‘Glitter Gulch’ (2006).
In 2007 the band left Island Records but continued to tour the UK until February 2008, when Nine Black Alps began work on their third album.
The new album, entitled ‘Locked out from the Inside’ was recorded with producer Dave Eringa during the winter of 2008/2009, and is due for release in the autumn this year.
The first release from the album was a new track called ‘Buy Nothing’, which within hours of its release on NME.com was downloaded more than any other track the NME have ever featured.
Following this success, Nine Black Alps are currently on tour in the UK to promote the new single and the forthcoming new album.
Sucioperro (pronounced “sooch-ee-oh-per-oh”) are an alternative music trio, formed in 2002 in Ayrshire, Scotland. The band’s name is a rough Spanish translation of “dirty dog”.
‘Put tracing paper over the start/stop ethic and romantic lyrics of Scot-rockers Biffy Clyro, the brutal hardcore bludgeoning and meaty riffs of Reuben, the heavy rocking of Fighting With Wire and the dynamics of Oceansize and you pretty much get ‘Random Acts of Intimacy’ with a cherry on top. . . lyrics about necrophilia in fourth track ‘Random Acts of Intimacy’. You don’t get much more cryptic than that…
So if you like it whiny and serrated, bugger off: Sucioperro and their peers are the future of rock.’ (Rock Louder)
