DETACHMENTS / PROSPECT LANE / THE SKYLINE
Layering sparse, tweaked acid house production over post-punk ESG percussive beats and chunky bass should make for a hands-in-the-air experience – and it does, but only in the sense that Detachments have taken you at gunpoint. Somehow echoing the disenchanted sound of Joy Division and the sleaziness of Iggy Pop at the same time with disco-punk, spacey synth and screeching guitar. More pressure; more darkness; frazzled electro-skronk meets urban decay!
The foundations for ‘Prospect Lane’ were laid at 7.25pm on a spring day at the Sharmans Cross public house on Prospect Lane in a leafy suburb of Birmingham.
The Lane’s first recording was ‘Tear me to Pieces’ which was produced by Gavin Monaghan (Kings of Leon, Editors, The Twang) and is closing title soundtrack on the recent Killers rockumentary – ‘Leaving Las Vegas’. Mr Monaghan also produced ‘Fickle’ and ‘Isolation’. Prospect Lane have toured and supported the likes of The View, Ghosts, Boxer Rebellion and Silversun Pickups and also performed on Channel 4′s The JD Set. They have also been played and acclaimed on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio2, BBC WM, BBC Shropshire and Kerrang Radio. The band performed their third live BBC radio session in December 2008. 2009 holds great promise for The Lane with talk of killer new tracks, an EP launch and gigs a plenty!
The skyline - We’re The Skyline. We are from Brum. We make music that you can sing along and sometimes laugh/dance/cry to, and are lucky enough to have shared the stage with the likes of Kano, Wiley, Zane Lowe, Little Man Tate, Underground Heroes, Robots in Disguise and The Troubadours. That was pretty cool.
RADIO 1 Just named us in their top 30 bands to watch out for in 2009. mint.
We also like recording our music, and we’ve just recorded our debut album with Gavin Monaghan, who has of late been key in the careers of Editors, The Twang, Nizlopi and has also sprinkled his magic on the likes of Kings Of Leon, Robert Plant, The Fugees and The Smiths.
